Bridesmaid

How do you know Emma and/or Jack? Emma and I met on a beautiful September morning during recess in grade 4 when I asked Emma if she would like to be my friend and she said absolutely not. Unfortunately for Emma she was then paired with me for Book Buddies and then somehow ended up walking to school with me every day until we graduated high school and then somehow ended up living with me for all 4 years of undergrad. Favourite memory of the bride/ groom? It is REALLY hard to choose just one but I’d probably say the time there was a Tornado warning when we were living together at Western and we were so scared that we gathered food rations (bagels and orange juice ofc) and then quite literally broke into our basement neighbours apartment (who we did not know) and sat on the floor for a few hours while it barely even rained. Come to me during the weekend if... you need help Marie Kondo-ing your cabin or if you need me to label any of your socks or underwear so it doesn’t end up in the Lost and Found.

How do you know Emma and/or Jack? I became aware of Emma’s existence via a viewing of her in her baby carrier at the tender age of 3. I asked when she was going back to the hospital, an assumption I made that she lived here, so our family of 3 could continue in perfect harmony. I met Jack at Camp Tawingo and of course became closer since him and Emma began dating. Summary - I am the Brother of the Bride. Favourite memory of the bride/ groom? Probably picking up Emma from high school in our old mini van with the expressed purpose of embarrassing her - blasting 50 Cent very loudly as I rolled up to the school and rolled down the window yelling Emma! Lets go! Come to me during the weekend... for instructions on the bonfire location and tips on where the D’Juno is hidden. Also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-2FkSlShqo

How do you know Emma and/ or Jack? I know Emma from our early days at John Wanless Public School. Our first playdate goes down in infamy because I left crying when Emma wouldn't let me play Sailor Moon with her. I didn't even watch Sailor Moon! But I sure wanted Emma to pretend we were her (are there multiple Sailor Moons?). Anyways, I've forgiven her. Barely. Favourite memory of the bride/ groom? When we were eleven Emma starred in a film adaptation of Go Ask Alice (the fake diary where the protagonist spirals into drug addiction and dies), but she interrupted every take to declare her love for Rob Lowe (crica. The Outsiders film). This remains a cinematic masterpiece. Come to me during the weekend if... you need philosophical question prompts to shut down small talk or a DM for some impromptu Mafia.

How do you know Emma and/or Jack? I know Emma through our moms! They very wisely set us up for a first play date when Emma was still 2 and I had recently turned 3. So I don't even remember a time I didn't know and love Emma! Favourite memory of the bride/ groom? Everything that could be boring or whatever is automatically risk-of-peeing-your-pants laughing funny when you do it with Emma, so it's hard to pick one single funniest memory. Obviously the Grade 6 Quebec Trip stands out, and all our shenanigans associated with the Fairlawn Neighborhood Centre theatre productions Come to me during the weekend ...... I've been accused of being bossy once or twice over the years, so I'm going to go ahead and say, come to me during the weekend if you need to be told what to do

How do you know Emma and/ or Jack? Emma and I were introduced through our mums at about 2 years old... at the Mum's Group, even! Favourite memory of the bride/ groom? This is really a secondhand story, but Emma telling me about her solo trip to the Mexican underwater caves (with photos) was the hardest I've laughed literally in my entire life and I thought it was going to cause a medical emergency. Come to me during the weekend if.... I get overstimulated really easily, so you can come find me for some quiet sitting time, maybe even throw a Headspace meditation on too!

How do you know Emma and/ or Jack? I met both Emma and Jack at Camp Tawingo in the early 2010s. Jack and I are both virgos, and it was a slow burn friendship but we are now bae's. Fate placed Emma and I in the same circle as counsellors and we bonded over a shared love of cheezies, gabbing and musical influences (Celine, Alanis, Beyonce's halftime performances etc.). Emma has been by my side ever since as we lived together completing our MSWs and entering the workforce, laughing and crying all the way with our kitties. Favourite memory of the bride/ groom? Sharing a bubble in the pandemic with Emma and Jack, including sleepovers where we would make a living room bed, watch music videos and play video games, and Jack would make us breakfast in the morning. Come to me during the weekend if... If you need a dancing partner or a snack, I gotchu.

How do you know Emma and/or Jack? Jack is my young(er) brother. I know Emma from being on staff together at Camp Tawingo 😊 Favourite memory of the bride/ groom? No particular funny memory stands out! I’m a bit boring. There was the time Dad and I were going up a ski lift in Scotland when Dad received a phone call. Jack had been stopped and detained at the Dutch border whilst travelling to Holland. Turned out he hadn’t paid his fine for urinating in a canal the last time he was in Holland (lol). Dad had to get his credit card out (whilst still on the ski lift) to pay the fine and release Jack. I’ve not got a funny memory with Emma, perhaps we can make one at the wedding! 🕺🏼 Come to me during the weekend if... you desire a coffee (other hot drinks welcome) and chat about current events. ☕️ Cuddles* with Jack’s nephew Lockie also included (*subject to nap time😴)

How do you know Emma and/ or Jack? Jack is my older brother. I know Emma from Camp Tawingo, specifically hanging out at SWAMPE Lodge. Favourite memory of the bride/ groom? Funny/fond memory of Emma: getting a drunken selfie together every year on Bar Night! (see above) It started off when I was a TLC and stayed at the Smith’s where the pre was being held. I was outside and Emma ran across the street to say hello, and the first selfie was taken. Other fond memory is Eagle stars and discussing Delphinius the Dolphin. For Jack: blasting Katy Perry’s Roar in the car outside halls waiting to pick you up during first year. Sheer embarrassment! Another is at Sam’s wedding you were about to leave the party (jet lagged) when Shania Twain came on and Emma sprinted back in! You sat down immediately and sighed. Come to me during the weekend if... you want a morning paddle and/or dip in the lake. Later on come to me for a boogie!

How do you know Emma and/or Jack? Fortunately, camp. Favourite memory of the bride/ groom? Monkey costume bar night incident. Come to me during the weekend if... you want to jump in the lake. (i guess sometimes brevity is best... - emma)

How do you know Emma and/or Jack? I have known Jack since we were 14 and from our time playing rugby and becoming Dutch national champions together. Then in 2013, 2 weeks before I left for university in Edinburgh, I found out that Jack and I would be going there together. Even though we stayed in separate halls, wed see each other almost every day, this included Jack skipping class to come play GTA V in my room. During our time at uni I remember most fondly the two years that we lived together. Fast forward to today and Jack is one of my closest and best friends and I couldn't be happier for him and Emma to have found each other. Favourite memory of the bride/ groom? One of my funniest memories of Jack has to be either first or second year at uni and we were out for our friends birthday. Everyone was having a good time and both the music and drinks were flowing. Then on comes the classic tune 'Temperature' by Sean Paul. And without hesitation, Jack lifts up his shirt and begins to play along to the beat using nothing but his hand and his stomach. Yes there is a video. And yes this will be available on request. Come to me during the weekend if you... A) want to hear the fairytale story of how we became Dutch National Champions or B) Want to see the Sean Paul Video.

I know Emma and/ or Jack through... I know Jack from high school in The Netherlands, and he was a regular guest on our couch throughout university. We were sad when he left to Canada, but it was the best choice he could have made, because now we know Emma too! Favourite memory of the bride/ groom? When we played rugby together, Jack was always a target for hard tackles, since the opposition always assumed he was a good player (debatable assumption). Unfortunately, one tackle did a bit more damage, and broke Jacks leg. One of our team mates, thinking Jack grasping at his leg was a cramp, ran over to help. Picking up the broken leg, he rested it on his chest, and leaned his full weight into it (rugby players can be quite heavy). What followed was both the most agonising scream I’d ever heard, and a bunch of teammates trying to control their laughter (Sorry Jack) Jack, with his undying commitment to the team, came straight from the hospital into the city to celebrate the win with the team. While travelling on crutches from one bar to the other, he needed to relieve himself. Surely the police wouldn’t fine someone on crutches, we thought… Come to me during the weekend if... you need a a bit of banter, a drinking buddy, or just a listening ear!

I know Emma and/or Jack through.. Jack and I met at camp. Back then we called him Gator. Self proclaimed. First my boss, then my colleague as Program Coordinators, with first session being 'rookie season', and the prime of our tenure as second session 2017, when the "Heatles" of Program were brought to life with the edition Emma- the wily veteran who took our game to a new level. As a young rookie, I spent three weeks with absolutely no idea I was third wheeling Favorite memory of the bride/ groom? There’s that one where I got a little too drunk on bar night and tried to kiss Emma? I was denied. I’ll go with a nice story. When we were all on program together, we’d drive to Huntsville at night for a trip to McDonalds. An epic excursion for a newly anointed “re-con” like myself, I looked forward to those little town visits all day when one was on the schedule. In the car, we'd listen to “The Melody of a Fallen Tree.” It’s got really endearing lyrics and a hypnotic baseline, kind of makes you nostalgic for a time you can’t quite place. The best part? It’s eight minutes and nine seconds - exact amount of time it takes to get from camp to the Huntsville Dons. Try it sometime. Come to me during the weekend if... You want to swap stories about Emma and Jack. Or if you need a paddle partner. Or If you are interested in jumping in the lake. Or perhaps chugging a beer? Depends on whether or not I’ll be speaking at this event.
