How to Get to Martha’s Vineyard

You can reach the island either by ferry or by plane. By ferry: Options depart from Woods Hole, Falmouth, Hyannis, New Bedford, and Rhode Island. The Steamship Authority is the only ferry that carries cars. Reservations book quickly, especially in summer! Plan ahead if you’re bringing a vehicle. By plane: Fly directly into Martha’s Vineyard Airport (MVY).

Do I Need a Car on the Island?

Not necessarily! Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, and Vineyard Haven are very walkable, and taxis, Ubers/Lyfts, bikes, and local buses make it easy to get around. If you’d like to explore the island’s beaches or up-island towns, renting a car (or bringing one on the ferry) can be helpful.
