We met in Spring 2013 (however, this is a debate we still have) when Emma was working in downtown San Diego and Elvis used to live a block away. In his bachelor days he would go out to eat most nights in the surrounding neighborhood. Emma, working as a hostess at a restaurant nearby, would say 'hi' to Elvis when he would walk by to go have dinner. Elvis began coming by the restaurant to stop and chat with Emma more and more as the months went on. Eventually, when the timing was right, Elvis asked Emma out on a date and after several attempts and persistence, Emma finally agreed. Since then, the two of them have been inseperable.
Spring 2013 - We met November 2013 - Started Dating February 21, 2014 - Officially Boyfriend & Girlfriend July 6, 2017 - He popped 'The Question'
Our engagement began in January 2017 when Elvis and Emma were at her home, in Detroit, MI, for the Christmas/New Year holiday. Elvis took the opportunity to sit down with her parents and ask them for her hand in marriage. Fast forward a few months, Elvis and Emma had planned to go to Puerto Rico in early July. Elvis thought this would be the perfect opportunity to propose, because they would be surrounded by loved ones. Unbeknownst to Emma, Elvis had also planned for her mother to be there for the engagement, and both families had been planning the surprise since January. On Monday July 3, Emma's mother surprised her at the hotel they were staying at for the week. Emma's mom got to meet the entire Torres family and experienced Puerto Rico for the first time. On Thursday July 6, Emma, her mother and Elvis were going to meet the family later for dinner after they showed Emma's mom, El Morro, which is a large fort in San Juan that overlooks the ocean. Alongside the fort, there is a pathway, El Paseo de la Princesa (The Princess Walk) that Elvis and Emma had done several times on their last trips to Puerto Rico. On Thursday afternoon we embarked on the 2 mile walk around the fort alongside the gorgeous ocean and rocks. It was a very hot, summer day in San Juan which made the walk feel even longer than it was, but finally we made it to the end and walked up the backside of the El Morro. On Emma's first trip to Puerto Rico, and to El Morro, they discovered a dirt pathway off to the side of the cliffs. Elvis and Emma followed the dirt pathway down through overgrown greenery and discovered a secluded clear area with a stone bench built into the cliffs. This area jutted out far enough to have a 200 degree view of the ocean and was surrounded by the beautiful greenery. This is what Emma called "The Engagement Spot" because of it's privacy and natural, breath taking views, which she felt were ideal for an engagement. And it is here, that Elvis chose to ask her 'The Question.'
