After hiking up Mount Sneffels, we were wet, starving, and running purely on Palisade peaches and Cliff Bars. Then we stumbled into Yankee Girl Café, and honestly, it felt like finding an oasis. The food was hearty and delicious...exactly what our souls (and stomachs) needed. 10/10 would recommend for anyone who’s just conquered a mountain or simply wants to eat like they did.
After a six-hour drive from Denver straight after work, we rolled into Ouray absolutely starving (are you sensing a theme here?). Brickhouse 737 came through in every way: Cozy vibe, incredible service, and food so good we stopped talking mid-bite. They focus on community, farm-fresh ingredients, and travel-inspired dishes, and you can taste the love in every plate. Creative but totally approachable, it was the perfect welcome to Ouray.
From alpine lakes to hot springs, Ouray is full of adventures waiting to be explored.
Enjoy an easy 500 foot walk into the thundering waterfalls! With access to the high bridge, perimeter trail, and nature center. The Box Cañon Falls is a must see in Ouray, Colorado! Box Cañon Falls is the culmination of Canyon Creek before it joins the Uncompahgre River near Ouray. The water plummets through a very narrow quartzite gorge with power and force. *No dogs are allowed in the park
Take a scenic drive on one of Colorado’s most breathtaking roads! The Million Dollar Highway winds between Ouray and Silverton with towering peaks, waterfalls, and views that’ll make you pull over every five minutes. It’s an adventure worth the name, and one the whole family will remember.
If you’re up for some adventure, the Ouray Via Ferrata is an unforgettable way to experience the canyon. You can go guided or unguided: Gold Mountain’s route is guided only, but the Ice Park route is open for independent climbers. So if you’re feeling confident, you can totally go on your own! Skylar and I did it together, and it was such an awesome experience. It takes you right down the river and through the canyon. You can rent everything you need from local shops (we rented from the Adventure Center –they gave us a quick guide, and we were off!).
Experience the 1880s and the world of prospectors, adventurers, and mountaineers with your own ride on those high cliff-hanging stage and wagon roads! You can see firsthand the old mining ghost towns above Ouray, Silverton, Telluride, and Lake City with the guides of Colorado's first and original Jeep Tour company. Pets and car seats allowed!
Okay, we know what you’re thinking... why are they recommending a 14er for a wedding celebration getaway? Trust us that Mount Sneffels is one of the most gorgeous hikes we’ve ever done. You don’t even have to make it to the summit to experience it (Emma is speaking from experience) – the trail winds past stunning turquoise lakes and alpine meadows, and sunrise in the San Juans is absolutely unreal.
Parks, play, and plenty of space to roam — Ouray is just as magical for kids!
No matter how old or young, the Ouray Hot Springs Pool is family-friendly. In the summer, there is a volleyball net for the competitive family or a battle against friends, a rock wall for those climbers that can never get enough, water slides (open 12-6) for the adrenaline junkies, a rolling fun key log, and of course, an adult-only soaking section for those who seek relaxation and serenity.
