Andrew was small wave surfing in Del Mar. Emily, was walking Junebug, her half-dutch malinois, half-basset hound creature on the beach. From just inside The Outside, Andrew noticed this bodacious babe and her blasphemous pet. He knew he had to catch the next wave to get her attention. He flipped his 2 ft long hair over his shoulder, and saw a swell on the horizon. He knew it was now or never. "Please god of gnar, let me stand up and catch this wave - just this once." He paddled harder than a man who had absolutely nothing left to lose and everything to prove. Arms churning, ego fully exposed. The wave picked him up like it too knew the stakes were high. He popped up. For one glorious, fleeting moment, Andrew stood tall. Balanced. Radiant. A sun-kissed Zeus gliding across a classic 1-2 ft 15th street wave, god-like hair flowing, confidence peaking. Emily looked up from Junebug, who was actively trying to eat a piece of kelp, and squinted toward the water. She noticed a very tall man surfing a wave. She squinted harder...and she also noticed a shark fin quickly approaching this statuesque surfer. She started waving her hands frantically. Andrew, stoked to have caught Emily's attention, started waving back with one hand, while maintaining his shaka in the other. He was about 50 feet from shore now, but the shark was only about 10 feet away from him (!!!) Something hit his board. He looked over his shoulder, and saw a baby great white shark staring right back at him. Andrew, ever the extreme survivalist, pulled out his mini travel-friendly dynamite. He invoked his avalanche mitigation skills and threw this mini explosive sure and true - right on top of the shark. KABOOOOM! The blast created a huge wave, knocking him off of his 18 foot foamie, and he tumbled to shore. Emily, having seen the water explosion from the beach ran to him. She grabbed Andrew's arms and pulled him to safety. He started coughing up gallons of sea water. He turned his face towards Emily, and was trying to tell her something in a ragged, low voice. Emily got closer and asked him to say it again. "Are you...are you...Jamaican?" Emily stared at him blankly. "What..?" she said. Andrew sat up, regaining his strength and resolve, and said, "Are you...Jamaican? Because...you're Jamaican me crazy!" She laughed, he laughed, June laughed - and the three of them grabbed some GF beers at Viewpoint. Jk, we met on Hinge.
