Emily and David found each other by “swiping right” in November of 2014 through a prestigious dating application called The Tinder. At the time, there were 950,000 active profiles in Los Angeles across Tinder, Hinge, The League, and other matchmaking apps, literally making the odds of them finding each other 1 in a million! They quickly fell for each other, and the adventures began. Having both gone to USC (Emily to become an Architect, and David to pursue software and entrepreneurship), they quickly learned they had a lot of things in common, like mutual loves for sushi, hiking, traveling, cooking, and spreadsheets. After many bike rides, sailing trips, cooking classes, and ski adventures, they decided it was time to leave the warm sunny beaches of Santa Monica to start their next adventure in the Pacific Northwest, where they currently live together in Seattle. #TinderSuccess
The #matchingbackpacks hashtag comes from one of their first dates where David invited Emily to go out for a motorcycle ride through the Malibu canyons to go rock climbing. To prepare for this ride, they needed to swing by REI (one of their favorite stores) to buy a new backpack and both ended up purchasing the same exact one.
Although knowing since a trip to Japan in 2016 that David wanted to spend the rest of his life with Emily, it took him until May 2018 to get his act together and propose on a trip to Tulum, Mexico. On that day, the two of them rode bikes from a vegan brunch (David’s favorite) to some ruins, and then had tacos and beers on the beach for lunch. Emily didn’t know it, but David brought the ring along with them everywhere they went that day. On their way to dinner David finally popped the question on the beach and Emily said “Yes!” David is certain it was a surprise, but Emily has convinced herself that she saw the ring box while they were walking…
