Spencer and I met in 2018 while working in fine dining at Carson's American Bistro in Ann Arbor. At the time, I had just finished my bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Human Biology, and Spencer was attending Washtenaw Community College with hopes of transferring to the University of Michigan to pursue a nursing degree (a lot has changed—Spence works in tech now!). Over the course of a year working together, we became close friends and built a great friend group. Eventually, we started casually dating, but life seemed to be pulling us in different directions. I got accepted into a graduate program at Davenport University in Grand Rapids, while Spencer was planning to move to Montana to work at Glacier National Park. Just when it seemed like we were going our separate ways, Spencer got the exciting news that he’d been accepted into a coding bootcamp—conveniently located in Grand Rapids. We took a leap of faith and decided to move to Grand Rapids together after he finished his work in Montana. Early in our relationship, while adjusting to life in a new city as broke college students, we found ourselves navigating the pandemic together. That experience only brought us closer and showed us how strong we are as a team. Over the years, we’ve celebrated so many milestones: moving across the state without jobs or friends, both graduating with our degrees, landing our first jobs, buying our first home, getting our dog (we love our Tracker!), settling into new career opportunities, and building an amazing circle of friends on the west side of the state. Now, after everything we’ve been through and built together, it’s finally time to focus on our relationship and get married. It’s been a long time coming—and we couldn’t be more excited!
