East Passyunk Avenue
If you're staying a few days, hit up some of our favorite spots in South Philly! Walk up and down Passyunk Ave - this is where we had our first date, found out the offer was accepted on our house, got engaged, and spend most of our Philly fun times! Go to Human Robot brewery for a milktube, Stogie Joe's for pizza and a Phillies game, wander your way down to the Italian Market for the Rocky experience, or stop for a Hand Pie at Anne's House*. *Disclaimer: Anne's House is not a real place to go. It's just our friend Anne's house and you cannot eat the Hand Pies - that is her dog's name.
Fishtown
Ryan's old stomping grounds and another Philly date with all our favorite places! Grab a cheesesteak from Joe's and eat it across the street at the The Garage while you play skeeball. Weckerly's for funky flavored ice cream sandwiches (Ryan refuses to admit that the beet flavor was actually delish). Then walk down Frankford Ave and stop in the record shop, Philly Brewing Co, and Jinxed or Thunderbird Salvage for quirky antiquing.
Old City
Philly history tour! Elfreth's Alley, Independence Hall, Betsy Ross House, and the Liberty Bell. From Independence Hall you can bop a few blocks over to Washington Square for a meal at Talula's Garden (Emily's old workplace!)
Longwood Gardens
This is a world-famous botanical garden located right in Kennett Square! Plan ahead and purchase timed tickets; you could spend a whole day here or a lovely afternoon. See everything from an incredible bonsai collection to a whole room of exotic orchids to a wildflower meadow to historical Dupont mansions. Fun fact - Emily's parents got engaged here in the 80's!
Brandywine Museum of Art
Chester Countians are very proud of our famous local artist family - the Wyeths (Jamie, Andrew, and N.C.). This gorgeous museum is right on the Brandywine River a few miles outside of Kennett. It features works that we grew up with and are hanging in almost every home in this region.
Downtown Kennett!
Kennett is an adorable town that is regularly featured on lists of "coolest small towns in America." You could spend an afternoon checking out the historic homes, bopping into the shops, and eating/drinking. A few of our 'must-dos' include: Coffee and a mixed berry scone at Talula's Table (farm-to-table restaurant and gourmet shop that Emily managed for nearly a decade) La Pena for the best authentic Mexican food. Say hi to Ryan's buddy Julian (bonus points if you bring him a beer) and definitely get the Birria. Ice cream at La Michoacana! Every flavor is amazing but we recommend something unique: corn with chili spice, avocado, tamarind, and best of all - the special, perfect flavor that they make for Emily's birthday in mid-July every year: Passion Fruit! A cocktail on the porch of Lettie's, or a mixed six pack from Tired Hands Brewing in the basement. Mrs. Robinson's Tea Shop for unique blends and fun souvenirs! Clean Slate Goods for ethically sourced and fair-trade gifties!
