Our Story

Emily and Nick first met around February 2014 and later attended junior prom with some mutual friends in March. Their story officially began in the fall of their senior year. Nick and Emily ended up in the same math class and Nick took every opportunity to message Emily for the math homework details after school. They started dating on 12/13/14. Nick had grown-out blonde tips in his hair from the football season, but she fell for him anyway. They frequented Sonic for late-night ice cream, Pickering Wharf for walks, and Red's Sandwich shop for breakfast. They discovered a lot about themselves and each other while sunset chasing on the weekends. They grew closer and closer after high school graduation and grew into adulthood together as Nick attended Umass Darmouth's Medical Laboratory Science Program and Emily completed nursing school. After they had started their careers and saved some money, they started a beautiful life together. They love to ski, hike, and spend time drinking coffee and listening to music together. They travel to Graciosa, Açores frequently to visit Emily's Vovo and have made so many fond memories there. They adopted a senior cat named "Fozzy" in August of 2021. Both being from Peabody, Emily and Nick had many date nights in Salem - sharing one of their first dates on Pickering Wharf. It felt fitting to tie the knot in Salem, right down the street from where their story began.

The Proposal

Acadia National Park had been on Emily and Nick's bucket list for some time, so Emily did not think much of it when Nick suggested they go. Her suspicions escalated when Nick wouldn't let her wear her hiking boots on one particular hike on 10/10/21. It was peak foliage season, so the views from the mountain were spectacular. Nick had a husband and wife duo (Kate and Keith Photography - who will also be shooting their wedding) "hiding in plain sight" to capture the moment. Nick and Kate had agreed that, right before Nick was going to propose, Nick would take a "selfie" with Emily to motion to the photographers that he was about to propose. Naturally, Emily kept trying to take selfies with Nick (which Nick gracefully dodged) for roughly 20 min while Nick was waiting for the sunset to begin. Finally, Nick started to get oddly particular about where they were standing for their selfie and Emily started to really catch on. Sure enough, Nick proposed on that hike on Beech Mountain. It was mostly cloudy during Nick's proposal, really drawing out the colors of the trees - it was beautiful. As they began to make their way down the mountain, the clouds began to break. The photographers suggested they hike back up a nearby rock scramble, where they witnessed a breathtaking sunset. Emily and Nick went for dinner at Havana to celebrate - easily the fanciest dinner either of them had been to. They enjoyed a bottle of Montepulciano and basked in the "we just got engaged" feeling.

Photography has been a way for us to connect with each other over the years. The background photo at the top of this page was captured by Kate and Keith Photography at sunset the night we got engaged. The black and white photo over that and the photo at the bottom of the page are from our engagement session with them. They are SO talented. PS - they will be photographing our wedding!

Video credit!

Our engagement session above was shot by the talented rc_media. It was incredibly special for us to see our love from the "third person" view for the first time. Rach and her high school sweetheart, Dylan, captured Renée and Steve's wedding in January. Rach will be shooting our wedding video as well. :)
