Flight
We recommend flying into O'Hare or Midway airports! Both are easily accessible to the city via public transit, rideshare, or car rental.
Travel Note
There are several car rental options in the airports, though parking downtown can be an added stressor or expense. Lyft and Ubers from O'Hare are usually $50-60 and can take 60-90 minutes to get to the Loop during peak time, Midway about $30-50 and 30-60 minutes travel time, depending on the time of day you arrive. Our ride of choice is usually public transit! Coming from O'Hare, your option is the Blue Line train. It runs 24-hours a day, though can be a bit more comfortable during regular daytime hours. From Midway you have the option of taking the Orange Line (hours are more limited to daytime). The Orange line ride into the city comes with the added bonus of providing some of the BEST views of the gorgeous skyline :) We're happy to share any travel tips and tricks for navigating the city!
Travel Note
Once you're settled in and looking to explore the city, there are many ways to get around! Walk - Chicago is a delightfully walkable city, and you're never far from a restaurant, coffee shop, park, or bar. Bike - weather permitting, biking is one of our favorite ways to get around! Chicago has a huge network of shared bikes called Divvy which can be accessed through single ride passes or whole day passes. The city also hosts a variety of e-scooter companies (Lime, Byrd, etc). Rideshare - Uber/Lyft/taxis are abundant and relatively affordable in Chicago. We find average costs are between $15-30 to travel to a different neighborhood, depending on the time of day. Public Transport/CTA - we LOVE the CTA! It's fast, cheap, and very accessible. Riders can purchase single use or day passes at most 'L' stations or simply tap a credit card or phone to access, no tickets required.
