For those of you who have heard this story a hundred times… just pretend to be surprised! Back in 2020, we both went to a Luke Bryan concert in Southern California, completely unaware that fate (and Luke Bryan’s love for audience participation) was about to work its magic. Midway through the show, Luke handpicked fans to dance on stage during "Country Girl (Shake It for Me)." As fate would have it, we both got called up, and our eyes locked for the first time—while aggressively shaking our booties in front of thousands of people. Nothing says romance like public humiliation. When the song ended, Eric, running high on adrenaline (and possibly beer), asked for Emily’s number. And boom—love story unlocked. …Or at least, that’s how Eric tells it. Reality check: We’re a proud Hinge success story (seriously, Hinge, sponsor our wedding). Emily moved to California from Baltimore in 2020, constantly telling her friends, “My man is in California—I just have to find him.” Turns out, she wasn’t totally wrong. But instead of a fairytale concert meet-cute, her first post-move Hinge date was at Lazy Dog restaurant… with Eric. And yes, little Malfoy (a mere 8 weeks old) was her tiny, furry chaperone. So while the Luke Bryan story isn't technically true, our real beginning involved dating apps, dog snuggles, and a lot fewer people watching us dance. And this time, the rest is truly history. Also, we are excited to share that we will be taking the last name Sjoholm in honor of Eric’s mom. Her love, strength, and legacy have deeply shaped our lives, and we feel grateful to carry her name forward as we begin this new chapter together.
