As people did back in 2015, Caley and Emily started talking on Plenty of Fish. Emily was working in Calgary for an engineering co-op and Caley had moved to Calgary for a job 8 months prior. After exchanging a few pleasantries, they decided to meet for dinner (pretty big deal compared to the typical coffee date). Caley was 15 minutes early for dinner and Emily was 10 minutes late for dinner, which was due to her not wanting to be the first person to show up, and not expecting someone to be on time, let alone early. Dinner went smoothly and they chatted for hours discussing the important things in their lives. From there, they went out a few more times before they were spending majority of their time together. As many of you know, they then continued to date after Emily left to go back to UBC and finally, 26 months later, they both made the move to Vancouver together and have been eating and drinking their way through the city ever since.

After spending over four years together, two of which were long distance, Emily and Caley went on a lovely vacation to Point No Point on Vancouver Island. Little did Emily know, that Caley had more in mind for the weekend than originally expected. After a previous summer injury for Emily, Caley finally got her out hiking and enjoying the gorgeous Vancouver Island coastline. While hiking, Caley kept waiting for the right moment but there were too many people around and Caley wanted it to be a more private event. After a long day of hiking, Caley and Emily treated themselves to a lovely dinner which they do from time to time. At dinner, despite the romantic setting, it still wasn't the right time to pop the question. Once comfortably back at the cabin, they played a game of golf to pass the time while sipping on some scotch in front of the fire. While Caley was destroying Emily at the card game (for the first time in history), he asked Emily if she wanted some ice cream. Knowing Emily would never say no to ice cream, Caley had a plan in mind. Sneakily, he went to the freezer and pulled out the small tub of Caramel Cone Explosion Haagen Daz. He took the ring out of his pocket and placed it just underneath the lid of the ice cream and placed the tub in front of Emily. Emily opened the ice cream tub and just stared at the ring speechless. Caley had surprised Emily for the first time in their relationship.
