Caed and I met at Starbucks both working as shift supervisors. I had just moved to Alaska from Washington State and was excited to start fresh and see where my adventure would take me. Although moving away from home was terrifying, I knew I was exactly where God wanted me to be. When Caed and I met it wasn't love at first sight. Caed's bubbly never ending supply of energy and excitement definitely..... overwhelmed my shy quiet self. But as time progressed we started to talk more; more at work, outside of work, and eventually all the time. The best way I can describe our relationship is like rediscovering a long lost best friend. Over the summer Caed and I started dating and enjoy all the outdoor adventures Alaska had to offer. Not only did I fall in love with the state, but the more I got to know Caed the more I grew to respect and love him. And well, you know what happened next....
It all started when I asked Emily to go for a small hike with me at Eklutna Lake in the summer of 2020. Fast forward to February 27th, 2021, I asked her to take that same walk, and this time she was surprised with a question. I woke up that day and told Emily that we were going to go take photos of the mountains at Eklutna. While driving up I reminded her of our first date and why we liked Eklutna so much. Once we made it to the lake I set up my tripod only to find that I forgot my mounting plate. But it all turned out ok once I was able to use my camera strap to attach the camera. I then took a couple "nature photos" when in reality I was setting up for "the shot". I had her pose in the landscape and turn after I counted down from three. I did it multiple times to not draw suspicion. Once she had no idea, I got on one knee. Best part, she said yes.
