How We Met

Andrew and Emily met on their first day of medical school during a workshop where they ended up in the same group. Once Andrew figured out that Peter was Emily's twin brother and not her husband, he was excited to be meeting such a pretty girl but played it cool and asked her to a group study session. Emily was intrigued when she noticed that the other members of the study group would generally have reasons to head out early, leaving her and Andrew studying alone together. It was after one such day that Andrew asked Emily on their first date, a homemade pad thai picnic!

The Proposal (Emily's perspective)

Andrew wanted to make this proposal special! Knowing that I love all things ocean, his thoughtful plan was to go whale watching in the afternoon, propose on a beautiful ocean bluff at sunset, and then go eat a nice dinner and dessert! However things did not go anywhere close to plan. Getting stuck in traffic meant that we had only 5 minutes to run close to a mile before our whale watching boat left. Immediately after we started running, I fell off the curb, gouging my knee on the asphalt. After cleaning up my bloody knee, our supposedly 2 hour boat ride turned into 4 hours of not seeing a single whale or dolphin. By the time we arrived back at the dock we were both starving and had to make a stop to get nachos for first dinner. When we made it to Andrew's chosen proposal location, the "open 24/7" location had closed for sunset. Racing off to another beach location, I began hungrily eating the food while Andrew set up his camera on the tripod to take sunset photos as light was quickly fading. Andrew asked me to model for his photos, and I agreed, wanting to be supportive of his passion for photography. While I was posing and twirling at the water's edge, Andrew left his camera unattended, walked across the sand toward me, and pulled out the ring! While I did an excited crab dance, Andrew, still on one knee, got wrecked by the incoming tide. I was so surprised! I had teased him all week and throughout the day that a whale watching trip would be an ideal setting for engagement, but after it didn't happen on the boat, I was sure it wouldn't happen that day! Needless to say, we were so happy when we ran out of the ocean engaged! And I have a scar on my left knee to remember the blessed event by! :)
