How We Met

11.2.2019

Since we can't agree, so why don't we give you our own versions: Emily- "He was my bus crush. Everyday of fall 2019, I would take the big blue city bus into work in the morning and sneak glances at the cute guy riding the bus with me. It became my favorite part of the day. He would always get on before me, but we got off at the same stop and walk into work (we worked in the same building). Since he always had his AirPods in, and my coffee never kicked in fast enough for me to be awake enough to say "hi", we never spoke. Halloween weekend 2019, I went out with some friends for a birthday party, and saw Andreas across the bar. Since my friends all knew about crush on "bus boy", I whispered to my friend he was in the bar- and pointed him out. My friend (and now bridesmaid Alexa) pushed me over to him (where I approached him!!!) and we finally spoke.... and well the rest got us here" Andreas- "October of 2019, I leased a brand-new Porsche. After just 1 week with my new car, I left my trunk open while leaving a parking garage and smashed the trunk on an overhead pillar. Devastated, I found myself without a car, and forced to take the Big Blue City bus to work while my car was getting repaired. Unbeknownst to me, this would end up being an absolute blessing. Sitting on the bus each day, I noticed a tall, glowing, stunning girl get on the bus a few stops after me. She would always get off the bus at the same stop as me and enter the same building as well. I thought to myself, "Who was this mysterious girl?", but I made a promise to myself that I would find out. Day after day, she would get on and get off the bus like clockwork. Sometimes, even sharing the same elevator only to get off on the 2nd floor (who does this!?). When eye contact was made, we would simply smile and get on with our business. On a Saturday night in early-Nov 2019, shortly after getting my now-fixed car back, I was out with friends at a bar in Santa Monica. While having drinks and enjoying my night, I surprisingly spotted the tall unicorn from the bus across the bar. Without any hesitation, I (big disagreement on who approached who) immediately walked over to introduce myself knowing it was time to solve this mystery. And maybe get a number…. We quickly exchanged names, pointed out that we recalled each other from the bus and confirmed that we both work at UCLA. However, the conversation was short as there was music blaring and crowds bumping into us, making it hard to talk. However, this was major progress, and I knew we would see each other again soon. A few days later during the work week, I was going to lunch at Jersey Mike’s and there she was! Immediately, we started chatting again and exchanged numbers. I let her know that I was no longer taking the bus but would be in touch! After texting for a few days, I was driving down Wilshire and there she was again, crossing the street, heading to the bus stop. Immediately, I threw all my Amazon return packages from my front seat to the back, opened the window and yelled “Emily! Get in!”. She appeared shocked but quickly recognized me and jumped in. After laughing about the situation, we immediately picked up conversation which felt so comfortable and unforced. I soon asked her on a date to Bodega Wine Bar (cliche, I know) and she said yes! During that first date chatted for hours and became clear that there was a strong connection. While I was using the restroom, Emily secretly paid for the whole dinner. I immediately found her Venmo and tried to pay her back, only for her to block me, and prevent me from paying. She promised I could pay on the second date though (sneaky). The next few months consisted of lunch dates during the week, smoothie breaks during the work day, and picking her up in my newly fixed car to and from work. The dates, filled with laughter, storytelling and meaningful discussions about life, made it clear our connection was growing deeper and I was falling for her."

The Proposal

7.29.23

We went to Malibu for a "picnic with friends" before dinner on Saturday night in late July 2023. Parking near the bluffs in Malibu, Andreas walked with Emily down the beach at sunset, before he led her over to a beautiful picnic (pictured below) and got down on one knee. Through (A LOT) of tears, she said yes and we were engaged. We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in Paso Robles!
