Although we crossed paths in elementary school, we can only distinctly remember becoming friends in 6th grade at 11-years-old. Our kindred spirit bloomed in our youth and blossomed in adulthood. We remained good friends throughout college, and once we graduated we finally acted on a decade-long crush. We were both at an age and point in life where we figured- it's now or never, might as well see if they feel the way I do, or accept this friendship for what it is. Just a friendship. We left the "what if" behind and everything changed overnight.
Five years later, we spent a beautiful Saturday afternoon celebrating one final ride on Candlewood Lake before our best friend's family sold their boat. A sunny day on the water, full of hometown deli chicken cutlet sandwiches and Sauvignon Blanc, took a pause when we anchored at an island to relax for a moment. After Jason went missing for a few minutes too long, Emily went to look for him in the woods. She was stunned to find some of her favorite tunes softly playing and Jason surrounded by flower petals, photographs strung from throughout their lives, and a bottle of champagne. He got on one knee and after a few expletives she was able to mutter out a "Yes". Back at home, best friends and family from near and far were ready to celebrate into the night with us. It was a memory we will never forget. We're so, so, SO excited for all of the people we love most to be together in the same place at the same time for likely the only time in our lives. See you in May!
