It was freshman year at W&L, and Emily and Gordon were both Physics/Engineering majors. Gordon routinely aced his tests without even studying, so he started tutoring Emily (what a move 😉). They became close friends after spending hours in the library together, and during Spring Term, Gordon took a leap of faith and suggested they date. Emily responded “You’re more the marrying type than the dating type. Call me in 10 years.” Gordon transferred to MIT the following year, and they kept in loose touch through Skype calls and running into each other during trips to Boston and San Francisco. Ten years later (yes, exactly 10!), when Gordon was visiting San Francisco, they reconnected and grabbed a Philz coffee. They started texting a bit, which turned into calls, which turned into Facetimes, and one fateful day Gordon asked Emily to spend New Years Eve with his family in Charleston. She said yes immediately (surprising, but also in classic spontaneous Emily fashion). They dove in head first and a year later, after 250+ hours of Facetimes, 48 hours of Oculus Quest virtual dates, and 40,000+ flight miles, they were engaged!
Thank you for traveling to Colorado to celebrate with us! While we were dating long distance between California and Florida, we often "met in the middle" in Colorado, which quickly became our favorite weekend destination getaway. Our goal was to find a venue and location that allows our favorite people from all over the country to join us, from coast to coast, so we decided it would be a perfect spot to celebrate our love with y'all. We found this beautiful southern-style mansion nestled amongst the Rocky mountains, which represents our southern roots and appreciation of ‘God’s handiwork.’
