A few ideas (depending on time): Day trip to Arenal Volcano, ziplining, hot springs, waterfall and canopy tours, boat cruises etc. If you just want to wing it when you get there, there's a lot of tour companies around Tamarindo - it's pretty easy to set something up a day or two beforehand.

Food & Drink

You can't really go wrong in Tamarindo. So much good food and drink to stumble upon. Several of our favorites around town: BREAKFAST Breaking Bread - We're obsessed with this place. Best sandwiches - breakfast or lunch. Café Tico - Local foods, but something for everyone. The coffee is the best! Santa Rita Cafe - cute cafe with great coffee and food Pico Bistro - Breakfast on the beach! Also great for sunset LUNCH/DINNER El Mercadito - Open air food stalls with something for everyone. Great atmosphere and bar. La Boca - Argentinian food. Soccer bar. Dragonfly - One of the top restaurants. Awesome food overall. Little lucha - Best tacos and margaritas La esquina - Pizza. Super good. Bamboo sushi. Great sushi and fun atmosphere Fish and cheeses In Playa Langosta - Good wines and Italian dishes. Lola's Beach Bar

Playa Avellana, Guanacaste Province 50303, Costa Rica

If you want to venture to a nearby beach, 30 minutes south of Tamarindo is Playa Avellanas. Go to Lola's beach bar for an afternoon. Amazing drinks and sunsets - we stumbled across this place our first time visiting CR and it is a gem. This is where we took our engagement pictures!

Arenal Volcano National Park

Alajuela Province, Costa Rica

In Arenal Volcano National Park, you can find just about any adventure you're looking for - go zip lining, atv around the volcano, soak in one of the many natural hot springs in the area, go hiking in a natural preserve, swim under a waterfall at La Fortuna Waterfall. If you have the chance to extend your trip, a couple days in this area is worth it!

Tons of places to rent surf boards and lessons around town. Here's one of the main shops. If you have ever wanted to try a surf lesson, Tamarindo Beach is the place to do it! Warm water, light currents, and no rocks are just a few of the reasons Tamarindo is ranked in the top 10 for best places to learn how to surf in the world.
