Driving your own vehicle into Mexico

The drive from Tijuana to the wedding is 1.5-2hrs. We recommend the coastal route. It is scenic and a primary highway with lots of vehicles on the road. There are several tolls of 40 pesos, come prepared! Tijuana Land Borders: San Ysidro - Open 24hrs; most direct and busiest; Global Entry and Ready Lane equipped Otay Mesa - do not recommend. Tecate - 6am-2pm M-F & 8am-4pm Sat/Sun; 80 miles from San Diego; usually faster than San Ysidro -------------- Considerations: Mexican auto insurance is required by law. We recommend Mexpro. See our separate travel note for more info. Entering Mexico is easy and quick, returning to USA can be painfully long. Expedite your border crossing with a Global Entry/Sentri card, using the Sentri Lanes. OR expedite your crossing by taking a Ready Lane To use Ready Lanes all vehicle occupants aged 16 or older must have an RFID-enabled card. U.S. Passport Cards and California Real ID's will work.

Auto Insurance in Mexico

If you will be driving in Mexico, it is required to be covered by Mexican auto insurance. Your standard auto insurance plan will not provide coverage for any claims that occur while you are south of the border. We have used Mexpro very recently and it was affordable and very easy to get coverage. Click below to be taken to their mainpage.

Cell data in Mexico

If you will be driving in Mexico, having cell data will be extremely helpful for providing turn by turn directions. Please check with your cell provider to inquire if this will be available with your current plan. Alternatively, you may purchase a Mexican cell sim card in Tijuana to use in your personal cellphone. There are numerous parking lots on San Diego side where it is safe to leave your vehicle, and which are within easy walking distance to border crossing. Once you have entered Mexico, it is a quick and easy taxi or uber to the Alamo rental shop. There are multiple Alamo locations in Tijuana. The Zona Rio location is the closest and most convenient to the border.

There are numerous parking lots on San Diego side where it is safe to leave your vehicle, and which are within easy walking distance to border crossing. Once you have entered Mexico, it is a quick and easy taxi or uber to the Budget rental shop. There are multiple Budget locations in Tijuana. The Zona Rio location is the closest and most convenient to the border.

Shuttle

We are working with our wedding planner to provide a shuttle service from San Diego to Valle de Guadalupe. There will also be a shuttle service to/from wedding ceremony for our guests staying within a 3 mile radius of Hotel Boutique Valle de Guadalupe. There are many options to choose from. Please check back here for exact details soon. In the meantime see below for initial information: ------------------ Friday, October 29: Late morning, shuttle will depart from San Diego (location TBD) for Valle de Guadalupe. Sunday, October 31: mid-afternoon, shuttle will depart from Valle de Guadalupe for San Diego -------------------- If you would like ultimate flexibility of where to stay, consider driving your own vehicle

Flight

Tijuana International Airport (TIJ)

This is the closest international airport to the wedding. There are many international car rental agencies that operate out of this airport. Additionally there is a possibility we may be able to coordinate a shuttle pickup option. If we are able to organize an airport shuttle pickup, in all likelihood there will be only one departure time around 12pm. NOTE: the shuttle will likely be limited to drop offs at Hotel Boutique Valle de Guadalupe and hotels in its immediate proximity. If your accommodations are more than 4 to 5 miles from Hotel Boutique Valle de Guadalupe please keep this in mind. More specific shuttle details are in the works. Please check back here for additional information at a later time.

Getting around in Valle de Guadalupe

Taxis and Ubers are difficult to come by in Valle de Guadalupe. If you are staying in close proximity to our wedding site (think 3 mile radius) you will be able to take advantage of a shuttle service. Otherwise if your accommodations are outside this radius you will be responsible for your own transportation.
