Best Man
Mickey has been friends with Zach since college. They met on a retreat for church and subsequently joined the same Bible study. Similar to Zach, Mickey is an accounting nerd. He's married to one of Maddy's bridesmaids, Savannah, and together they have a lovely baby named James!
Groomsman
I met Zach in College. You might not believe it but I'm even more boring than he is. Zach has a layer of goofball energy that's a joy to see come out. We talk about math and economics sometimes and some of our friends can't stand it! We always have a good time!
Groomsman
Daniel is so honored to stand alongside Zach and Maddy on their wedding day. Zach and I met through our community at St. Tom's having both been convinced to join the intramural basketball team our first year at CU. I was a grad student who had been told the team was mostly upperclassmen and they needed one more person, when in actuality the team was mostly freshmen, including Zach. Neither of us were particularly great basketball players, as both of us were more academically oriented. So naturally, we became great friends. Although I studied engineering and Zach studied finance and accounting we found common ground looking at predictive statistical modeling methods. and our faith. Almost two years ago, I had the great pleasure of having Zach join me on my wedding day as one of my groomsmen and I could not be happier to be one of his.
Groomsman
I met Zach during my freshman year of college. I would consider him my first friend in college. We met playing a game that included strings for hours while there was a bunch of girls dancing in another room. Let's just say we continued to play game. Zach can bring out the dumbest and most heartfelt moments in any person. I guess that sums up our relationship.
Groomsman
It was a bright sunny morning, I was getting ready to start my free solo attempt of El Capitan, and I wondered what perils might await me on the mountain side. Never did I expect what I was about to encounter. I arrived at the base of the mountain and found a few people messing with their ropes, harnesses, and anchor to keep themselves safe. I like living on the edge, when I climb, I climb free solo. After exchanging some hellos, I began my climb. I heard one of them say to his friends, “He’s as crazy as the last guy.” I wondered what that meant, but then I found myself in the groove of climbing and it slipped my mind. However, when I got about half way I found another climber also free soloing! I was shocked this was my first time finding someone else as crazy as me on the mountain. He hadn’t been able to progress very far because some climbers above him had knocked a rock loose and hit his right shoulder. He was in a great deal of pain and he was past the point of no return, meaning it would have been harder for him to climb down than to finish the assent. He told me what had happened and how he was struggling to continue by himself. So, I told him that I would continue the climb with him. When we got to the top, we realized we never asked each other’s names! I told him, “My name is Kolbe,” and he told me, “My name is Zach,” and we have been good friends ever since. To be honest, Zach and I met at homeschool rock climbing class. I just thought this was more exciting. :)
