Some may ask, why did you pick New Year’s Eve for your wedding date? We originally scheduled our wedding for April 9, 2021 on National Unicorn Day during Divine Mercy Weekend. However, COVID had other plans. With the best interest for the health and safety of our friends, family and ourselves, we made the very difficult decision to postpone our wedding. We selected New Year’s Eve to make it easier for everyone who was traveling to be able to make it. It’s already a party night - why not make it an even bigger day?
Steven was lonely sitting home alone in the middle of the pandemic. He saw an ad for a dating app called Hinge and decided why not? A few days after installing the Hinge app, the app brought up Elsa’s profile and suggested that they would be a good match. Steven liked Elsa's profile, but was too timid to click “Like”. But he didn’t click the “X” either (if he did, he would never see her profile again). Elsa’s profile would pop up every time Steven was on the app. Finally on June 4th, Steven decided to take the plunge and clicked “Like”. What could it hurt? Elsa had never seen Steven’s profile before when she was notified that he had liked her profile. She was convinced he was a fake profile and started to try and prove it. But she also was intrigued and allowed Steven to start a conversation. They chatted through the app for the afternoon and then started up again the same evening. Elsa was feeling comfortable by this time and asked “why are we letting our fingers do all the talking?” Steven gave Elsa his number and they talked long into the night. Within 4 days, they met in person on his birthday and by the end of the day, Steven asked Elsa for her permission to court her. She said yes.
Steven picked Elsa up for a big night out. He surprised her at the door with a bouquet of lovely red roses. Elsa thought they were going to a food truck for tacos. Instead, they drove to Scottsdale to Cafe Monarch, a phenomenal restaurant with very romantic, candlelit tables and beautiful rooms reminiscent of a French country manor. After they shared an amazing four course dinner with very attentive staff (who were in on Steven's plan), Steven got down on one knee and asked for Elsa's hand in marriage (in Spanish - he'd been practicing for a while) in front of the entire restaurant. Elsa said SI! Many happy, ecstatic, "about time" tears flowed. They were cheered and congratulated by everyone in the restaurant. It took a moment for Elsa to let Steven put the ring on her finger as she was still in shock. But thankfully with the support of everyone nearby - especially the lady who yelled from across the room "PUT THE RING ON" - she overcame the butterflies in her tummy and let Steven put a ring on it!
