The Wedding Website of Elaine Wallin Smith and Harjap Singh Kang
Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

There are ~160 bunk bed spots available for those interested in staying at camp with us. Otherwise, see the 'Travel' tab for a list of local hotels.

Question

What can I expect at each event?

Answer

The Haldi is a laid-back, joyous event in which our loved ones spread a turmeric paste on us to bless our marriage. We'll end the fun with a dip in the lake to rinse off! The Jago is a lively, high-energy evening filled with music, dancing, and performances by the couple’s friends and family. There will be food, drinks, and a party atmosphere—think of it as the wedding’s welcome bash. This party may be indoors and outdoors as weather allows. The Anand Karaj (Sikh wedding ceremony) is full of tradition and symbolism. It will start with the baraat - an arrival procession for the groom filled with upbeat music. Everyone is welcome to dance your way in alongside him! The ceremony itself will take place in the Gurudwara, and will include meaningful rituals like blessings from the family and exchanging vows. Punjabi langar/lunch will follow the ceremony. The American wedding ceremony will take place in an outdoor chapel at camp and feature our lovely wedding party and heartfelt vows. The reception will include a cocktail hour followed by dinner, toasts, and plenty of time to celebrate on the dance floor with the newlyweds.

Question

What should I wear?

Answer

Haldi: Think bright colors and more casual. Western options like sundresses, jumpsuits, or button downs work fine, or you could wear Punjabi outfits like a salwar suit, sharara, kurta pajama. Jago: Think cocktail attire with color and flair. Women can wear Indian outfits like lehengas or anarkalis, or opt for a festive cocktail dress. Men could wear a suit, dress shirt and slacks, or a kurta. Anand Karaj Ceremony: Guests will be sitting on the floor in a holy space. To show respect, you should cover your legs, midriff, shoulders, and head. Punjabi options like salwar kameez, anarkali, sharara, or a sherwani work well for this, although a well-placed drape could make options like a lehenga appropriate. Western attire could include a blouse and pants, maxi dress, or suits. Please DO NOT wear Red! American Ceremony & Reception: Think cocktail attire, like dresses and suits. Punjabi options like saris, lehengas, and sherwanis also work. Please DO NOT wear white! Non-Indian guests are more than welcome to wear Indian attire. Please see the 'Links' tab for inspiration and examples.

Question

Is there transportation between the camp and the Gurudwara?

Answer

We will not be providing transportation from the airport to camp or from camp to the Gurudwara (about a 30 minute drive each). We recommend coordinating with others who may be driving, or splitting a rental car.

Question

Is there parking for the ceremony or reception?

Answer

Yes, there is ample parking at camp and the Gurudwara.

Question

Can I take photos at events?

Answer

You're welcome to take photos during most events! For each wedding ceremony, we will have a specific moment for guest photos, and then will ask you to put away your phones for the remainder. We'll have professional photographers capturing everything, so you can relax and enjoy the moment.

Question

Are you registered?

Answer

Your presence on our wedding day is the greatest gift of all. We do not have a registry, however if you would like to honor us with a gift, a monetary gift would be most appreciated.
