How it Began

11.07.2020

We were part of the lucky few who meet their perfect person on a dating app. We matched and I (Elizabeth) immediately sent a text to my best friends saying "I think I just matched with my future husband. Stay tuned" (Literally) Glad I was right! Lucas asked me out for our first date, and we planned to get dinner the following Saturday. My best friend, Megan, and I were both talking to guys at the same time and decided to make our first date(s) a group date and all go to the same area, and then meet up after our separate dinners. Lucas and I went to get pizza, while Megan and her date, Jonathan, went to get Mexican food. Then we all met up for drinks after. Happy to report, Megan and Jonathan are also engaged! The most special part of the date was when Lucas brought me homemade Oatmeal Raisin cookies for dessert because I mentioned how much I loved them on my dating profile! It was the second date when I really knew how much I liked Lucas. He came to my house and made me homemade calzones and we watched Christmas movies. I have a rule that I am not allowed to decorate for Christmas until my Christmas cactus blooms (this was a self imposed rule to prevent me from decorating in October), and it had bloomed that day, so Lucas and I decorated my entire house for Christmas while watching Love Actually. The most special moment though was when my two dogs, Radler and Floyd, who were not always the most kind and loving toward men, fell asleep on his lap while we played cards. They say dogs are the best judges of character, and they just knew immediately he was a good one! And the rest is history! We both work from home permanently now, so we have been lucky to spend so much time together at home with the dogs and each other! We love going to arcades, trying new restaurants, watching Ted Lasso, and spending weekends up north!

The Proposal

07.21.22

Hi! It's Lucas! The first people to know I was planning to propose were my parents, I told them what day I was going to be purchasing the ring and coincidentally, my mom and Elizabeth were attending a bridal shower together that day. While they were there Elizabeth sent me a photo of a cupcake with a topper that said Bride To Be, and she said my mom told her she picked it just for her. That photo came in barely three hours after I made the purchase. Way to keep a secret Mom! I asked her parents for permission while we were visiting for Laurie’s Birthday and got their blessing while Elizabeth was on a work call in the next room. We had a trip to Marquette, MI planned for later in the summer and we were planning to attend the Venetian Festival in Charlevoix with most of my family coming up for the weekend, so that seemed like the perfect time to plan the proposal. One of the biggest things Elizabeth had mentioned when talking about engagement was being able to spend time with our families shortly after, and this trip provided the perfect opportunity to propose at one of her favorite places just the two of us, and then have both of our families in the same place at the same time to celebrate afterwards. I picked sunrise on Mount Marquette which overlooks the city, and surprisingly Elizabeth had never watched a sunrise there despite living there for both undergrad and her masters. This ended up being a 5:30 am wake up. I brought a tripod to film and take pictures of the day, but once we drove and climbed up the mountain, the wind kept knocking it over. Fortunately, one other family was up there, and I was able to have one of them take photos and we got perfect shots of the moment. She was very surprised and even thought I hired the family to be there to take pictures! Once we left Marquette, we went back to Charlevoix and spent the weekend celebrating with our families, where I got to surprise Elizabeth again with a bottle of champagne that she brought back from France years ago and has been saving for the perfect moment. She expressed how nice it would be to have for this moment and I was able to smuggle it in the car from Ann Arbor to Charlevoix without her having any clue!

Dating App Celebrities

Back in May 2022, we were asked to be a part of a film docu-series that Bumble (our dating app) was doing! They came to Ann Arbor for an entire day with a film crew and we filmed our love story. We did interviews, cooked together, went to different areas across town, and got to take a lot of wonderful videos and photos. You can check out one of the videos on the Gallery tab! :)
