Getting To & Around Nantucket

Ferries

Please book ferry tickets ASAP, they sell out in advance!

From Cape Cod: Hy-line & Steamship Authority ferries depart from Hyannis. There is a fast ferry (1 hour) & slow ferry (2 hours, 15 minutes) option. Hyannis is a 90-minute drive from Boston & 4-5 hours from NY. From New Bedford: The Seastreak Ferry avoids Cape traffic. It operates daily with 9am & 2pm departures and is approximately a 2 hour trip to Nantucket. New Bedford, MA is a 3-4 hour drive from NY and 1 hour from Boston. *The New Bedford ferry is a 30 min Uber from the Providence Airport & Providence Train Station for those who take the Amtrak to Providence from NY


Flights

Nantucket Memorial Airport (ACK)

Nantucket is an island that has its own airport (ACK) which is a 10 minute Uber or taxi ride from downtown. Flights fly direct to ACK from Boston, Providence, Norwood, JFK and Newark and occasionally from D.C., Charlotte and Philadelphia. Most flights are serviced through Jetblue or Cape Air.Flying is the quickest and easiest way to reach the island. Flights on major carriers depart from Boston, New York (JFK, LGA, EWR), and Washington D.C. Most of the airlines servicing Nantucket will post flights 6-8 months in advance. Please book your flights as early as possible as prices can skyrocket.

Ubers & Taxis

Uber and Taxis are both common options all over Nantucket.

There are taxi stands in town and at the airport. Most taxi companies accept reservations in advance. A few taxi locations: - Main Street Taxi Stand: Main Street / South Water Street & Washington Street - Steamboat Wharf Taxi Stand: At the Steamship Authority - Hyline Taxi Stand: At Straight Wharf - Nantucket Memorial Airport


Bike Rentals

Biking a convenient and fun ways to get around the island!

There are several bike paths to take you to popular areas like Madaket, Siasconset, and Cisco Brewers. Downtown are several bike rental options; it’s likely you’ll be able to walk-in to rent or most can deliver to your hotel. We recommend: - Young's Bicycle Shop (6 Broad Street) - Cook's Bike Shop (6 S Beach Street) - Nantucket Bike Shop (4 Broad Street)

The WAVE

Public Transportation

The Wave is a shuttle that runs regularly with routes all over the island. *You can load your bike(s) on the front of The Wave. Car Rentals

An easy way to explore the whole island!

While it's not necessary to rent a car, if you decide to stay on the island for more than just a weekend it would make it easier to explore the whole island.
