The Wedding Website of Elissa Alvarez and John Sawyer
We can't wait for you to come join us in our favorite place: Taos, New Mexico! Some things to know: Taos is small and not super easy to get to/around, so: YOU WILL WANT TO RENT A CAR. More on car and flight options below. In September, it should be warm during the day and cooler at night, so pack layers. And hiking shoes - there are so many good trails (see things to do page). We're at 7,000 feet here - the altitude is real. So give yourself a little time to adjust, always be hydrating, and we like a little preventive ibuprofen on the day of travel. Check back soon for hotel block options - we’re working on it.

Travel Note

Airports and Rental Cars

Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ) has the most flights and is a (mostly pretty) 2.5 hour drive from Taos. Rental cars are available from all the major companies. Santa Fe airport (SAF) is much smaller but also closer (1.5 hours) and worth a look. SAF has Hertz and Avis on-site, and Budget and Enterprise a shuttle ride away. Taos Airport (TSX) is incredibly convenient to town (about 10-15 minutes) but is tiny and has limited, seasonal flights to a small handful of destinations. Taos airport doesn't have rental cars. Rental cars can be booked at Enterprise (though call them to be sure they actually have cars) but that's on the other side of town, and even getting from TSX to Enterprise isn't that straightforward. There is also little to no Uber/rideshare service in Taos, and basically no public transportation, so this may be a best option for people who have someone else picking them up.

Travel Note

Airbnbs

Airbnbs in Taos are abundant and a really good option, especially for families or larger groups. Don't be wedded to stuff that's right near the plaza - you'll pay more for being able to walk to more, but you'll miss out on the scenery you can get a little further out of town. If you're considering one and want our take, text us a link.
