Sugarloaf Mountain was used as a signal station during the American Civil War. President Theodore Roosevelt reportedly made numerous trips to Sugarloaf Mountain to enjoy the views and tranquility. Then, Chicago-native Gordon Strong "discovered" the mountain while cycling with a friend and began acquiring the land in "woodlots" in 1903. He and his wife Louise made Sugarloaf their home and began building a grand residence. The Strong Mansion was completed in 1915. Mr. Strong believed "...those who appreciate natural beauty will be better people, people who treat each other better." The wedding ceremony will be held outside in Strong Mansion's gardens on the grass. Cocktail hour will be held throughout the gardens and by the pond, with seated dinner and dancing under the tented pavilion. Please plan to arrive no later than 4:20 pm. We will be providing roundtrip shuttle transportation from the Hilton Garden Inn. Please check out the "Travel" section for more information.
