P:Thankfully, a decision made in 2014 would lead me to continue my education at UTSA and put me on a course to meet Elisa. We met in May of 2015 at a leadership retreat in New Braunfels. E: I was encouraged year after year to serve as a cluster facilitator for a leadership retreat but it wasnt until 2015 that my schedule would allow. P: I saw her at a distance for most of the event because she wasn’t my cluster facilitator. I approached her after one of the night sessions. She had an ornate glow that I had not seen on anyone before. E: This was a 7 day commitment & we had LONG days. At the end of one of the night sessions, a young man asked me how I was doing. That turned into an hour plus conversation. P: We conversed for hours about where we were from & who we wanted to become. Unbeknownst to me this genuine young lady I met would later become my wife. E: I was impressed by the questions he asked & his desire to grow. I was really engaged even after a long day. We stayed in touch; I really wanted to connect him to a friend of mine that I thought could mentor him. That initial interaction created a true friendship where we talked about everything from entreprenuership to food. P: When feelings were had, I had a level of understanding of how serious of a relationship I could have with her & what that would entail. We started dating in September; our first date was at a Thai cuisine. Elisa at the time did not know the foodie she would be spending the rest of her life with.Thank God I’m marrying into the best Liberian family. E: A relationship was not on my radar at all. I made a list a year prior to meeting Paul (truly a love letter to God) of characteristics that I wanted my husband to exude. I didn’t take him seriously when he initially expressed interest. I gave him a hard time but when I looked at my list, it was Paul to a T. God heard my prayers. P: I love Elisa. To this day I will never forget how blessed I am. God entrusted me with one of his very best.
