Katelyn and Hayden met while both in their undergrad at The Florida State University in 2013. Katelyn and Hayden were both in the university marching band, Marching Chiefs, when they became friends. It wasn’t until a year later when Katelyn began her candidacy process for her sorority, Tau Beta Sigma, where they had their first memorable interactions. Hayden was a brother of Kappa Kappa Psi and their organizations worked closely together. There were many times where they shared company, whether at Chiefs or a joint SigmaPsi event, but they never really imagined what the future would entail. Katelyn nervously entertained something more when an alumni named Harry Buffalo came to town in October of 2015. Harry had a small get together where Katelyn and Hayden hit it off and felt they may be more than just friends. They were both having a pretty rough semester and wanted to spend time around mutual friends and forget their worries. They stuck together all evening, enjoying each other's company until it was time to head home. This is where Katelyn realized she would need to make the first move because Hayden was surprisingly too shy. Katelyn invited Hayden to lunch at Chipotle the next day in an effort to spend more time together. She ate nothing, he ate everything, and they nervously exchanged conversation. Katelyn drove Hayden to his car and then something very magical happened. Hayden reached out his hand for a handshake, thanked her for the afternoon spent together, and then quickly left out of embarrassment. Katelyn texted him as soon as she got home and they have not stopped talking since. Through every moment of their first year together, Hayden knew Katelyn was the one he'd be lucky enough to share his life with. After face-timing her parents, calling his own, and getting the seal of approval from a couple of her closest friends, Hayden proposed on December 3, 2016.
