I (Eli) took Hannah to all our favorite spots and food throughout the city that have been significant to us through our relationship. This included a picnic at Lands End with our favorite sandwiches and dinner at our favorite restaurant . We had both of our first kisses (first and second relationship) at Billy Goat Hill so I always knew I wanted to propose there and arranged for us to arrive just in time for sunset. Hannah knew it was coming because we looked at rings together but she had no idea it was coming that soon so it managed to be a big surprise. I had a balloon and I told her to watch it as I let it go. While it was floating over the city I had time to bend down on one knee behind her so that when she turned around I was waiting with the ring. My Dad joined us after the proposal to take pictures and we also got amazingly lucky that a kind stranger witnessed the proposal itself and took pictures from a distance. We even used one for our Save the Dates!
We originally thought about doing it on the anniversary of the proposal, February 19th. But when we learned that Mardi Gras was that weekend (!!!) we pushed it back a week to eliminate the conflict for our New Orleans friends.
We have talked about getting married for years and we always knew we wanted something very nature oriented. We met a couple once who told us they got married on a "stump in the woods" and that has been the dream ever since. Mountain Terrace provides that forest feeling we've been wanting in a stunning way.
We expect between 100 and 120 guests.
The ceremony and cocktail hour are outside on the lawn, dinner is on the deck in a heated event tent, and dancing is inside. Late February on a wooded mountainside might be sunny and warm or cool and foggy or wet. It's a good idea to bring layers and check the weather leading up to the wedding.
