A long drive, but worthwhile for the wildlife and wilderness once you are there! Requires some planning. There is one road in, and you are required to take a bus in. You can do small day hikes while in the park, or multiple day camping and hiking. EPIC views and wildlife. Ask us if you have any questions to plan this trip!
Charming town 2 hours South of Denali, 4 Hours north of Anchorage. A good stop on the way to Denali.
An awesome place for all levels of hikers and bikers! Right outside of Palmer, on Fishhook road. A very convenient option to bring the whole family and decide who wants to hike, bike, or do a casual walk.
Gregs favorite brewery!
Local Anchorage brewery
Anchorage local mountain biking trails, along with walking trails and casual hikes. Watch for moose! Also a great place to access the bluff trail, and the coastal trail.
Great mountain biking trails. People also like to run and hike out here. About 5 minutes from our house.
You can access the Coastal trail from all over town. This is one spot to access this trail. The Coastal trail, as the name says, goes along the coast of Anchorage with beach access sprinkled in. People like to run, walk, and road bike on this paved trail. You can also access the bluff trail from the Coastal Trail.
A great place to eat, about 5 minutes from our house.
Good eats in downtown Anchorage
Easy-moderate about 2-hour (roughly 4 miles) hike out to an alpine lake. Wider trail. Short drive from Anchorage and doesn't involve much planning or packing. A favorite, and also fun to mountain bike! It's a steady, gradual incline up, and a fast return. Access from the Rabbit Lake Trailhead.
One of the most popular hikes in Anchorage. You can access this hike from Glen Alps trailhead, or our preference, from the Rabbit Lake Hike trailhead.
All length of hikes from this parking lot. 20 minutes outside of Anchorage. Some recommended hikes for this area are Flat top (has a challenging scramble from this side), Power line pass (mellow, open), O'Malley peak (Get on top of a peak with a great view).
An adorable mountain town at the base of Alyeska Ski resort. Has a great brewery, fun restaurants, and a downhill bike park at Alyeska. Many hiking options in this area also.
A great option for hiking and biking. You can start at the Hope trailhead, or cooper landing trailhead. This can be a one way with a shuttle (awesome option for super adventurous mountain bike), or an out and back at whatever preferred distance.
Hot tourist destination for fishing, boat charters, guided fishing trips, and river floats. Will also have options for freezing and shipping your fish for your travel home.

Coastal Alaska town. Opportunities to fish, hike, and go to the Sealife Center!
Everyones favorite hike and moderately challenging mountain bike to an alpine lake. Worth the drive and the planning. You can also camp along the lake. Gorgeous views.
Named one of the weirdest towns in the U.S.! You enter through an impressive mountain tunnel built in WW2. Sparse options to spend the night, but a very worthwhile option for a day trip to hire a boat charter and get some glacier views! Completely surrounded by Alaskan beauty. If planning a day trip to Whittier (recommended!) , make sure to look up tunnel times as that is the only way in and out of the town and runs on a strict schedule.
Our absolute favorite Alaska coastal town- the Hood River of Alaska. A great option for easy car camping on the spit (though, its very busy there), easy fishing access on the spit, lots of options for water play and boat charters. Great restuarants and thriving local art. SOMETIMES there is enough wind to kiteboard. Air Bnbs book up fast here, so plan in advance if possible.
Water taxis that will allow you to access beautiful hikes and explorations around Kachemak Bay, in Homer, AK.
Great charter for most types of fishing in Homer, AK. We used this for Halibut last year, but they do most types.
Best pizza in Alaska! Not much sitting room, great for take-out.
