We both will never forgot the day our eyes locked from across the harshly lit, fluorescent glow of Upper St. Clair High School's hallway. I had just gotten out of a rough math class and was putting my books back in my locker before lunch. He was walking down the hall with his friends and I swear he was going in slow motion. My heart began to beat so loudly that I was sure he could hear it and I could feel my face getting flush. He looked over at me and gave me a big "Jordan smile." You all know the one. I was so thrown off guard that I almost looked around the otherwise empty hallway just to make sure he was actually smiling at me. I mean, this was Jordan Millorino after all, the boy I had had a crush on for what seemed like forever. But, as soon as our eyes met, I knew that smile was meant only for me and I smiled back. From that day on, I made sure to carry my books around with me all morning to have an excuse to drop them at my locker before lunch so I could see that smile one more time. Every day he saw me, his smile got bigger and bigger. Then, one day, I got a text from him asking if he could take me out on a date. I tried to play it cool and answered a simple, "yeah, that sounds nice" but the Lizzie McGuire version of me in my head was jumping up and down, doing cartwheels, and screaming "it's about time!" On our first date, we shared stories about ourselves, asked each other questions, and learned we shared the same taste in music and movies. We laughed the whole night and the rest is history. We have been in love ever since and both feel so incredibly lucky to get to see each other's smiles forever.
It was our 7th anniversary and we decided to go get brunch in the city to celebrate. We talked, laughed, and ate our way through the morning. After brunch, Jordan let me decide what to do next so, naturally, I asked to go to the museum. Apparently, that's just what he was hoping I'd say. We parked down the street from the museum and began walking to the entrance. About halfway between the front doors and the car, Jordan announced he had forgotten something and ran back. When he returned, he held a silver bag with tissue paper in it. I excitedly ask him if the bag held my anniversary gift and he replied that it did. So, of course, I asked if I could open it and he said I had to be patient. At the museum, I eagerly led Jordan to the art and began telling him about each piece we passed. After about 10 minutes of walking around, anxiously waiting to open my gift that he was still carrying with him, I asked again if I could finally open it. He, again, replied "No, we need to find the perfect place before you can." I assumed this meant he had gotten me something art-related, as he often does, and wanted me to open it in front of the actual piece. So, I continued walking around annoyingly asking him "Is this the perfect place?" "How about this?" at every painting we stopped at. Finally we reached Monet's Waterlilies which is one of my all-time favorites. Jordan turned to me and told me that this place looked perfect to him. We sat on the bench in front of the painting and I began to open my gift. There was a beautiful candle inside. I frantically shook the box containing the candle up and down trying to find the scent but I could tell Jordan was anxiously watching me as I did this. I opened the box and on top of the candle laid the most beautiful ring I'd ever seen. Jordan then got on one knee and ask me to marry him. I, of course, said absolutely. We laughed and hugged and then looked at each other with relief in both our eyes. Forever was happening... FINALLY!
