Efferata and Mateo’s story began at the University of Texas at Arlington in 2020, during a challenging year for many. Despite being in different majors — Efferata in Nursing and Mateo in Civil Engineering— they crossed paths as Resident Assistants in the same dorm. It was in those halls that their connection grew. During the 2020-2021 school year, Efferata and Mateo became close, bonding over their shared love for academics, fitness, and extracurricular activities. While their majors were different, they found common ground in their commitment to school and personal growth. Late-night study sessions often turned into deeper conversations about their goals, dreams, and challenges. Their relationship grew stronger as they supported each other through busy schedules. Whether it was staying accountable for workouts or helping each other navigate the demands of school, they always had each other’s backs. Efferata became a Registered Nurse, and Mateo completed his Masters in Structural Engineering. Through it all, their bond deepened as they celebrated each other’s achievements and supported each other through tough times. Now, after four years together, Efferata and Mateo are excited to marry in November 2025. What started in a dorm at UTA has become a lifelong partnership rooted in love, trust, and mutual growth.
