Tyler and Emily never officially "met". They knew each other growing up while their families attended the Placerville SDA Church. Although Emily largely spent her time with Tyler's sister, Edith, she remembers having the slightest crush on him. When Emily started fifth grade, her family switched membership to the Orangevale SDA Church. Emily and Tyler would then go three or four years without seeing each other. In 2020, at Sacramento Adventist Academy, Emily started her freshman year of high school. Tyler started sophomore year. Since COVID was taking over the US, nothing really happened until the end of Emily's sophomore and Tyler's junior year. Emily started carpooling with Tyler and Edith. Naturally, Tyler and Emily got to know each other and became close friends. During Tyler's senior year of high school, the high school music department put on The Sound of Music as their spring musical. Emily landed the role of Maria von Trapp and Tyler, Captain von Trapp. Taking on these roles meant their characters had to fall in love. Needless to say, so did they. During the rehearsals of the musical, Emily and her, then, boyfriend broke up, and Tyler saw that as his chance to make his feelings slightly more obvious. One day after rehearsal, Tyler walked up to Emily and asked, "Hey, so the script says there are a couple kisses after different songs, would you like to do that?" "Sure." Emily said. Was she secretly squealing inside? Yes. And did she have to wait two weeks to kiss him? Also yes. Tyler and Emily took different weeks off for spring break, and once they both came back for tech week, that's when the magic happened. Through the nerves and excitement, Tyler and Emily kissed not once, not twice, but six times. Once the musical closed, their love story hit a bit of a lag. But both Emily and Tyler couldn't stop thinking about each other. On April 25 of 2023, Tyler made his move and told Emily he had feelings for her. One week later, May 2nd, 2023, after thoughts and prayers, Tyler and Emily started dating. And after one year of long distance, Tyler asked Emily the question that still gives her butterflies. "Will you marry me?" And now here they are committing to a lifetime of love. They are so excited to do life together and they praise God for the future he has for them.
