YES :-) We will ask you all nearer the time if you could each bring a bottle of duty free booze before flying to Bali, so we can all get merrily drunk together at our reception! (because wedding booze is ridiculously expensive in Bali!). You should buy this before flying to Bali, because the "duty free" available on arrival in Bali is absolutely NOT duty free and is just a complete rip-off!
We certainly don't expect any wedding gifts, since you're all flying across the world to come and celebrate our special day with us and we're sincerely grateful for that. Your presence is the only present we want!
YES. As you walk out of the arrivals, you'll see some tourist SIM card companies on your left, and you should get one here. It might cost around Rp.150,000 for a basic 7 day data pack, which sounds like a lot, but it's actually very cheap! Note: it's very difficult (or impossible) to get a tourist SIM card elsewhere in Bali. The airport is where you should get this.
Bali is perfectly safe for foreign tourists. Petty crime such as theft can happen like it would anywhere else in the world, so it's advisable to keep your passport etc in the safety box in your hotel room, and be wary of your valuables in public places. If you need to change foreign money, one annoying thing in Bali to be aware of is scams at money changing kiosks in Bali, but changing money at the airport is fine. One other annoying thing is sometimes taxi drivers will try and rip off tourists and overcharge them. Watch out for scooters flying past if you're crossing roads - scooter traffic in Bali can be chaotic! Use mosquito repellent in late afternoons & early evenings - but according to www.cdc.gov there is no risk of malaria in the resort areas of Bali, or Ubud etc.
Have a look online at any of these places: Ubud, Canggu, Seminyak, North east/west coast, Mount Agung, Mount Batur, Sanur, Candi Dasa. But definitely stay away from the Aussie pisshead hellhole that is Kuta! The north-east/west coast of Bali is much quieter and chilled out than areas in the south. There's some great surfing spots around Uluwatu where our wedding is, and also surfing spots around Canggu, Kuta & Seminyak. If you want to do some scuba diving, the best places are on the north coast eg. the Liberty wreck at Tulamben - an amazing, easy shore dive. You could take a speedboat to a beautiful island called Nusa Penida and spend a few days there. Nusa Penida also has some great spots for scuba diving & snorkelling. Or take a ferry/speedboat to Lombok, or the Gili Islands. Be warned – it's peak season and some areas in Bali will be heaving with tourists, and transport around the island can take longer than expected.
Not really. Both the ceremony and reception locations are not very toddler or stroller friendly, as there are large pools of water, uneven steps and large cliff drop-offs without fences. If possible, we would advise and appreciate guests to make babysitting arrangements.
