Question

Travel Tips for Guests

Answer

✈️ Getting Here The most common travel option is flying into Denver International Airport, followed by a scenic drive into the mountains (about 4 hours) . Other options include: • Grand Junction Regional Airport (~2–2.5 hour drive) • Gunnison–Crested Butte Regional Airport (~40 minute drive, limited flights) A note on driving: The drive into Crested Butte is beautiful but includes winding mountain roads. We recommend allowing extra travel time. ⛰️ Elevation & Altitude Crested Butte sits at approximately 8,900 feet, which is significantly higher than what many guests are used to. Tips to help you adjust: • Arrive a day early if possible • Drink plenty of water (more than usual!) • Eat regular meals • Pace yourself and listen to your body 🍸 Alcohol at Elevation Alcohol tends to feel stronger and act more quickly at higher elevations. • Drink more slowly than you normally would • Stay hydrated by alternating water and alcoholic drinks • Be mindful of your intake, you may feel the effects sooner than expected 🌤️ Weather (Early September) Our wedding is on September 3rd, and early September in Crested Butte is typically beautiful but variable. • Daytime: 60–75°F • Evenings: 35–50°F • Sunny days with the possibility of quick afternoon rain showers • Cooler mornings and nights • The mountain sun is stronger, even on cooler days, sunscreen is important What to bring: • Layers (jacket, sweater, or wrap) • Comfortable walking shoes • Sunglasses and sunscreen • A warm layer for the evening 🚶 Getting Around • Crested Butte is a small, walkable town • Terrain can be uneven, so comfortable shoes are recommended • Transportation options are limited compared to larger cities • Parking can be limited during peak times • The Mountain Express is a free town shuttle that runs through Crested Butte and up to Mt. Crested Butte with frequent stops around town. It’s a great way to get around without a car while you’re here.
