How We Met

Fall 2016 - Spring 2017

Kayla and Bob met when they were both in the William & Mary Choir at The College of William & Mary. They knew of each other freshman year since they had mutual friends and were at some of the same events, but didn't actually start talking until sophomore year when Bob joined the choir. Kayla and Bob sat at the same table during the welcome event for new members and finally got to know each other beyond "that tall guy" and "the quiet girl." Kayla took the lead in planning their first date. After casually asking Bob about his weekend plans and discovering he was free on Saturday night, she, with the help of her roommate, crafted the perfect text. Kayla invited Bob to watch How to Get Away with Murder, her favorite TV show at the time. As luck would have it, Bob had been wanting to watch it too, so the date was set! That afternoon, Kayla meticulously prepared: she tried on countless outfits, hid her stuffed animals, and made sure every corner of her dorm was spotless. When Bob arrived, Kayla was so nervous she ended up talking through two episodes of the show. Bob found her nervousness utterly charming and the rest, as they say, is history!

Proposal Story

April 8th, 2023

In April 2023, Bob and Kayla took a weekend trip to Lexington, Virginia, to hike, visit wineries, and stay at a cute bed and breakfast with mountain views. Bob even splurged to have champagne and chocolates in the room when Kayla arrived. On Saturday, April 8th, Bob and Kayla went on a hike. Following the directions to the trailhead, Bob turned down an unpaved road. Unfortunately, both Bob and Kayla missed the sign that said “Four Wheel Drive Only” so Bob's Toyota Prius got some off roading experience. Bob decided to inform Kayla that his car doesn't have a spare tire after they had no cell service and had taken the car over its second water crossing. Thankfully, they made it safely to the trailhead. After all the excitement with the drive, Bob and Kayla had a lovely hike out to see a waterfall. On the way back from the hike, they found a lunch spot overlooking the waterfall. As they were preparing to have a picnic lunch, Bob popped the question. Don’t ask either Bob or Kayla what Bob said, both of them were so excited that they can’t remember, but they assure you it was a very special moment. The drive back down the mountain was a little less scary, but that might have just been due to the thrill of being newly engaged.
