A Dark-Skinned Beauty It was the middle of August 2007...I went to hang out with my cousin, Brandon, on A&T's campus. (I was not a student.) Shortly after we arrived we decided to play a game called Taboo...a game I'd never played before. I decided to cheat and make it funny and this dark-skinned, beautiful female just kept laughing at all my foolish, cheating ways, but she never told me she was interested in me. A few days went by and my cousin Brandon told me that he knew a girl that liked me. Come to find out- it was Ebonie! We started to date for a few months but I had other things going on so I ended it at the end of that year. The Taboo Guy It was senior year at A&T and classes were just about to begin. My RA friends and I had the dorm to ourselves and it was lovely-peace and quiet before the storm of Move-In Day. We had a huge living room in my building so my friend organized a game night. I love games so I was in! She invited one of her guy friends from class, Brandon. Finally, Brandon showed up with his cousin. He had a nice smile and chocolaty skin! I immediately wished I had put on a real outfit-not lounging clothes! He introduced himself as DL and I wondered what his real name was, but I didn't dare ask. Eventually we started a game of Taboo. I was so confused by this guy who kept saying all of the key words on the card! I had clearly explained the rules but he didn't seem to care. He was definitely losing but it was so funny! I thought it was sweet that he was trying to let me win. At some point the Taboo "game" fizzled out and it was just us laughing and reading key words from the cards. The next day while eating in the cafe, my friend mentioned that she saw how much fun I had with the "Taboo Guy," She also told me that she had already let Brandon know how much fun I had and how handsome I thought "Taboo Guy" was. Well! I didn't say any of that-not out loud, but it was true. I did like the "Taboo Guy" and he was very handsome.
Stuck At Work It was July 4, 2016...Ebonie contacted me to ask if I was going to any cookouts but I wasn't since I was working. She decided to bring me some lunch. She started coming to visit me at work every weekend after that even though she was talking to someone else. So she dumped him and got with me, of course. Duh! We starting dating again and picked up right where we left off. No Cookouts? It was the 4th of July. It was hot and sunny and I really wanted to go to a cookout! Everybody was gone. All of my friends were out of town. I decided to call DL and see if he was going to any cookouts. Unfortunately, he was stuck at work so that meant no cookouts for him either. I decided to go to Chic-fil-A and get some lunch. Since he was stuck at work I figured he would like some lunch too. It wasn't a cookout but it was a good lunch together. He claims I came to visit him every weekend after that but he definitely wanted to see me so what else was I supposed to do? Dating DL again was like finally finishing a puzzle...when you lost a piece under the couch or something. It was nice, effortless and very refreshing. Although several years had passed it seemed like it had been just a short time apart.
A Special Vacation Two years later we went on vacation together for New Year's Eve. Myrtle Beach. It is our first vacation spot together. I told her I didn't want to bring in another year without her and I proposed. She said yes...after crying for 5 minutes! God has truly blessed us over the years and on 9.18.2020 she will be my wife! The Pretty Decorations Myrtle Beach is one of my favorite places to go with DL. It was our very first vacation spot so it will always be special. We love traveling together so I was excited when he asked if I wanted to go to Myrtle Beach sometime after Christmas. He tried to get his family to come with us but everyone had plans. He seemed kind of bummed about it but I told him we would still have a great time. He rented a fabulous car, booked a day cruise for us and we went to some of our favorite shops. On New Year's Eve we got dressed to go out. We went downstairs to wait for the Uber and he realized he left his hoodie. It took him FOREVER to come back downstairs but finally we made it out into the crowd to celebrate! We took a taxi back to our hotel and when we got in the room it was decorated beautifully-with purple decorations! My favorite! I always decorate for holidays and I thought it was was so sweet that he decorated for New Year's Eve. I realized that's why it took him so long to get his hoodie! He was decorating for me! When I turned back around I told him how pretty the decorations were but he focused my attention on a particularly weighted streamer hanging from the ceiling. Why was it so heavy? Why was it so shiny? OH MY GOODNESS!!! There was a ring hanging from it! I've been told I asked a series of silly questions "What is this? Is this real? Who's is this" and other things before I busted into tears, but they were all happy tears. Somewhere between the tears DL asked me to be his wife and of course I said yes! I can't wait for my buddy, the "Taboo Guy" to be my husband!
