Flight
The closest international airport to Orta San Giulio is Milano Malpensa International airport (30 miles east of Orta). Check your passport! Your passport needs to be valid for at least six months beyond your return date to the U.S. We reccomend trying to fly into Milan 09/01 in case of unforeseen travel problems!
Rental Car
If you are traveling only between the airport and Orta San Giulio, renting a car is not necessary. Orta is a pedestrian-friendly town, and access to the town center is restricted to residents. In addition, navigating Limited Traffic Zones (ZTLs) and toll roads in Italy can be challenging. Private transfer services offer an easy and convenient way to travel directly between the airport and your hotel (see details below). If you are planning to rent a car during your time in Italy, please note that an International Driving Permit (IDP) is required in addition to your U.S. driver’s license. You can apply for an IDP by clicking “View.” From our experience, obtaining an IDP in person at a AAA branch is typically quicker, easier, and more cost-effective than applying online. The cost is approximately $38 and the permit is valid for one year.
Travel Note
Click 'View' for parking suggestions if you decide to rent a car. Hotel San Rocco and Hotel La Bussola also offer free parking for guests. ** note as of 05/24: the two hotels above are booked up
Travel Note
If you are getting flustered or don't know which websites to trust, reach out to your hotel and they can help you set up transportation from the airport and back! We reccomend emailing them. If you are still getting flustered, please do not hesitate to reach out to Dylan and Rebecca and we can help you set something up from the airport to your hotel and back.

Travel Note
The owner lives next door with three dogs that bark all hours of the day and the owner just lets them. The dogs are nice and friendly, but we got a little frustrated at all of the barking. Trust us it’s not worth it.
