The Relationship

Jaclyn and Dylan met their freshman year in an engineering class at IUPUI. Despite two months of study sessions with a cute boy (Dylan), Jaclyn quickly realized engineering was not for her. She dropped out of the program and they lost touch. Three years later, Jaclyn remembered that cute boy from her engineering class, sent Dylan a direct message ("DM") on Facebook...and the rest is history. They were friends for a year first, bonding over day shifts worked together at the Marion County Sheriff's Office, night shifts either studying together at IUPUI or working at the Crane Bay Event Center. This ample amount of time together allowed them to bond over their similar senses of humor, intelligence, and work ethics, as well as their mutual loves (dogs, cats, hiking) and their separate interests (Dylan loves guns, fishing, cars; Jaclyn loves books, libraries, desserts). Six years later, that friendship continues to be the foundation of their relationship, helping them walk through life's many ups and downs with love, laughter, and determination. Today, you'll find them both drowning in busy schedules, supporting each other's dreams, and fussing over their Tiny Overlord, a cat named Steve.

The Proposal

April 29, 2021 - Panama City Beach, FL

Much in need of a vacation, Dylan & Jaclyn plan a trip to PCB. Little did J know, D had additional plans for their beach getaway--and of course, almost nothing went smoothly. Jan.-Feb. 2021: D secretly shops for an engagement ring, blaming work for his late hours. J gets very mad at D's job. Mar. 2021: D&J make plans to go to TN, where he initially plans the proposal. The plans get cancelled. D stresses. D&J make alternate plans to vacation in PCB. D now plans to propose in PCB & books a photographer to secretly capture the special moment. Apr. 2021 (3 Weeks Before PCB): J contracts COVID-19. D quarantines J, trying to take care of her while trying not to get sick himself. They both stress, but D stresses the most. They fight a little. Apr. 2021 (Vacay to PCB): D&J stop in TN to visit D's sister and (future) brother-in-law, Chanel & Andrew. J looks in D's bag, not knowing there is a ring in there. D panics. Chanel helps J pick out a nail polish color & paint her nails. J is oblivious. PCB Day 2: J becomes terribly sun-burnt. PCB Day 3: To keep J mostly out of the sun, D&J go hiking. However, the hike leads them through alligator-infested waters. They're both sure they almost died, & D is secretly terrified he almost died before proposing. PCB Day 4 (The Big Day!): D tells J he booked a fancy dinner. J's nail polish is chipped to hell. After getting dressed, D promises J he will help her fix her nails (30 minutes before they need to leave for dinner). J, of course, did not bring nail polish remover with her. D, panicking but being resourceful, researches how to remove nail polish without remover--focusing on J's ring finger the most. J is still oblivious. D rushes J out the door without her shoes on. They go to the beach. D insists they stop & watch the sunset. J is confused because they will be late for dinner. D proposes. J ugly cries. The secret photographer introduces herself. They take beautiful photos & go to a fancy dinner without reservations.
