Our story starts on the banks of the Chattahoochee. Dwight and Genevieve met in the fall of 2013 while sharing a large campsite with our mutual group of friends for a 5 day Electronic Dance Music Festival called Tomorrowworld in the woods of Atlanta, GA. This motley crew came together through mutual friends with connections in Dallas, the University of Tennessee, Penn State, and professional connections. Dwight and Gen often reflect on their favorite DJ set - Laidback Luke. To spite the shared campsite and shared music interests, Dwight and Gen did not start dating at this festival. They became social media friends and kept in touch very passively. In the Fall of 2019, while Dwight was living in DC, on his walk home from work he noticed that Gen had changed her social media profile picture to "Collins for Congress". Confused and concerned, Dwight sent Gen a message to let her know that her account may have been hacked as it said she was running for congress. She quickly responded and said that it was not in fact a hack, but she was actually running for the House of Representatives. Shocked, but supportive, Dwight wished her all the best and said they should meet up for drinks next time work invariably brought her to DC. Gen came to DC in September of 2019 where she and Dwight went out to get drinks overlooking the White House. What started as two friends catching up after a long time quickly turned into sparks flying (and Gen actually laughing at Dwight's joke...yeah, he was surprised too). They met up again the next night, at Dwight's persistence. After just two dates, Dwight knew there was something special here and asked to visit Gen in Dallas. Of course, Gen had no time nor thought for this as, after all, she was running for congress. Dwight visited Dallas, Gen would come to DC, and they spend New Years Eve together. Not soon there after, the world shut its doors for COVID, but this might have been the best thing for their relationship. With the world cut off, they resorted to ZOOM dates, deep conversations, and thoughts of the future. Fast forward through long distance dating, a global pandemic, the election of 2020, and a myriad of other world and life events, and here they are...getting ready to walk down the isle both more in love than ever!
