Dwan and Vernard’s first date was on June 6, 2015 at Finlay Park during the Summer Concert Series to listen to Dante Lewis. Afterwards, Dwan told her friends that she had a great time. Vernard claims that Dwan giggled during the entire date.


As they continued dating, they hit several of the hot spots in SC. They found their favorite steakhouse in Rembert, SC and they quickly realized that great steaks were a common fondness of each. On October 3, 2015, after a day of Zumba, Dwan went to Vernard's where they began binge watching what became one of their favorite shows, Power. Dwan fell asleep watching the show and woke to realize that she would not be able to leave due to what is now referred to as The Thousand Year Flood in SC. They grew closer and decided to take a trip afterwards. Fast forward past all of the dates, grilled steaks, & fishing trips on Lake Murray and they welcomed their first child into the world. Their son was a major surprise and a blessing.
 The couple chose to tie the knot after sharing years together that allowed them to conquer mountains and, more importantly, valleys. Their love brought a second son into their family. As they continue to embrace and celebrate their differences, support one another, and laugh through life, they look forward to celebrating their joyous occasion with their loved ones. "We realize that our love has been a true village effort. The love shown to us and our family by our village is truly what got us here. Your support means the world to us and has taught us how to support one another. I've supported Vernard through starting his business, and Vernard has been my rock and my support through my law school journey. We met as adults, but we both were able to grow together as parents, friends, and individuals. We have been there for each other through many victories, great challenges, and some difficult losses, but I am grateful that he is the person that I am able to do life with. He keeps me laughing and having fun even when I attempt to remain serious. I am grateful that I was given someone I didn't realize I wanted or needed initially, but now I don't want to do any of this without my Vernard." — Dwan
