Shoutout First Colony YP Class!

First came Chuy's!

Kennedy and Dustin first met at a young professionals’ after-church lunch at Chuy’s. It wasn’t anything formal — just a group gathered around a table sharing food and conversation. Dustin happened to be watching the Masters that day, and Kennedy noticed him from across the table and thought, “Hmm… he hasn’t been here before.” What Kennedy didn’t know was that Dustin had actually seen her before. Earlier that January, Dustin had come across Kennedy on a dating app and sent her a like… which she never saw. So when Dustin walked into that after-church lunch in March and spotted Kennedy across the table, he immediately thought, “Oh my gosh — that’s the girl from Hinge who never liked me back.” From that point on, Dustin was definitely hoping for more than friendship — while Kennedy had no idea any of this had happened. For the next few months they were simply friends. They shared easy, meaningful conversations at after-church lunches, and somehow always seemed to end up sitting next to each other. They genuinely enjoyed each other’s company, even though Kennedy thought they were just building a great friendship. Then in July of 2025, the First Colony youth group needed someone over the age of 25 to drive the van for their trip to Camp of the Hills — and Dustin, at the ripe age of 35, fit the bill perfectly. Even though he didn’t know many people going, he jumped in to serve for the week and quickly clicked with the students. Somewhere between Dustin generously sharing his stash of Advil Liqui-Gels with Kennedy and the two of them listening to music through a shared pair of AirPods while cleaning the camp kitchen, something quietly shifted. A couple weeks later they went on their first date. That night Dustin finally told Kennedy the funny story about seeing her months earlier on a dating app — and how he had already recognized her the day they first “met” at Chuy’s. It turns out Kennedy hadn’t rejected him after all… she had just never seen it. Maybe it simply wasn’t time yet. Not long after their first date, both of them realized something special was unfolding. What began as friendship quickly grew into something much deeper. Before long they were saying “I love you,” and both knew they had found the person they wanted to spend their life with. Now they can’t wait to start the next chapter together.
