Things To Do

If you find yourself in the area for the wedding with some time on your hands, there's a lot to do across the county to alleviate boredom. Here's some of the things we recommend.

Broad Dyke Wetlands Natural Area

304 East 2nd Street, New Castle, DE 19720

Go for a walk along Broad Dyke and take in the wildlife, especially the birds! In summer, there are many wading birds along the shore, and sometimes eagles and ospreys nesting.

Read House & Gardens

42 The Strand, New Castle, DE 19720

Beautiful gardens and historic mansion museum right in Historic New Castle, a nice afternoon out in town.

First State National Historical Park

10 Market Street, New Castle, DE 19720

Walk the old green among the Arsenal (now home to the New Castle Historical Society), the old episcopal church, and the old courthouse museum. These buildings and the historic green that connects them are Delaware's only National Parks run historical site. Visit the museums or walk the old cemetery.

Christiana Mall

132 Christiana Mall, Newark, DE 19702

Shopping, eating, movies, and more. If you need anything for your stay, want to do some tax free shopping, or want to catch a movie at one of the most modern theaters in town, then Christiana Mall is the place to do it.

Jessop's Tavern & Colonial Restaurant

114 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE 19720

An old New Castle classic, serving classic pub fare and just about any beer you can think of. In summer they also run an ice cream window at the side of the building which sells locally produced Woodside Creamery ice cream!

The Mercury Cafe and Teahouse

206 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE 19720

In addition to hosting our wedding reception, the Mercury is one of our favorite places in town! They make excellent coffees and teas, and their completely vegetarian menu has something everyone- even die hard carnivores- will enjoy.
