How it all started...

The Nut House to the Chapel

During winter of 2015, my friend, Kadie, and I took a weekend trip away from Nevada to visit my aunt living in Palo Alto, CA. During our stroll on Friday, we noticed that one of the restaurants, The Nut House, was spilling over with people having a great time. Kadie and I settled on the decision to integrate ourselves into the celebration and before we knew it, we were in the mix. I noticed a very handsome man and Kadie suggested that I buy him a beer - the action that ended up changing my life forever. We found out the cute stranger's name was Duke and he had recently moved from Georgia to Palo Alto to work for a software company. After chatting for a bit we parted ways, went on a pizza mission, and left back to Nevada the next day. Back in Nevada, I was developing a feeling of being stagnant in my career and life and decided that I needed a change. I started to apply for job positions in Palo Alto, because I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to live with my Aunt. I ended up getting offered a joint administrative position for Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Stanford University. I packed my bags and in the Spring of 2015 and made the move. I was terribly homesick and would find myself hiding in my room every day after work moping. I decided that enough was enough and I was done having my pity party. I was going to start exploring the nearby California Avenue and wine and dine myself! I made my way to the  Nut House to chat to the friendly bartender and to watch the Warriors Game on TV.  The Atlanta Hawks were also playing a game and guess who was at the Nut House watching his team play? That’s right, Duke was! My initial reaction was to leave and not say hi but then I thought to myself, "I don't have any friends here and I'm tired of being alone, so why not?!" I walked up to Duke, who was still as handsome as ever, and asked if he remembered me and he did :) We chatted for a while and he asked me on a date and after that we were inseparable.
