Flight

Vancouver International Airport (YVR)

Check your passport's expiration date so you have time to renew if needed and be sure to pack it! Download ArriveCAN app to use Advance Declaration. Doing this ahead of time will allow you to take the express lane at Customs and save yourself some time in the airport. If you're planning to spend time in Vancouver, you can take the Skytrain from the airport into the city. You can use a credit/debit card with tap to pay going through the turnstile. Just be sure to tap the same card at your final destination! Note that each person needs their own credit/debit card to tap at the turnstile, otherwise purchase fares at the self serve kiosk at the station. Shuttle options from YVR to Squamish: YVR Skylynx: pickup at YVR. See website to book. Squamish Connector: It's a 20 minute Skytrain trip from YVR to get to the downtown Vancouver pickup location. See website for more details. Driving: It's about a 1.5 hour drive from the airport to Squamish with half of it along the Sea to Sky Highway. It's a stunning road wedged between the mountains and the ocean but is quite winding so we recommend doing the drive during the day to make it more comfortable and to allow you to enjoy the views.

Travel Note

Visas / Currency / Cell Phones

Visas - all US citizens can enter Canada with a valid passport. Please make sure that it's not expired and has your signature! If you have a passport from a different country please check visa requirements ahead of time as they may require some processing time before travel. Search "Canada Border Services Agency" or type "https://cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/" into your browser to find visa information by country. Currency - most US credit cards will work in Canada but may incur a small foreign transaction fee (typically about 2.5% of the transaction total but can vary). Similarly, you can withdraw money from ATM's in Canada for a withdrawal fee depending on the ATM. Most vendors in Vancouver and Squamish take card, so carrying a large amount of cash is not necessary. Phone - please check to see if your phone plan includes coverage in Canada (most major US phone plans do). If it does include coverage in Canada, you will have to turn your cellular data roaming ON so that your phone gets service in Canada. See link for a guide on how to do that for both IOS and Android. If your phone plan does not include coverage in Canada, or if you will be charged high fees for coverage in Canada, we recommend looking at purchasing a digital sim card for your time in Canada. Search "digital sim card for travel to Canada" to explore options. We recommend a service called "Airalo" but there are many good options

Travel Note

Transportation

We highly recommend renting a car from the airport as it's the easiest way to get around the Sea to Sky area. There is no Uber or Lyft in Squamish. Below is information for the two cab services: Squamish Taxi: 604-567-1111. Booking can also be made online Howe Sound Taxi: 604-898-8888 There is a public bus system that can be useful but is limited to Squamish, so if you want to explore beyond the town a car is necessary.

Budget Accommodation Options

The Squamish Adventure Inn is an awesome hostel in an ideal location just across the highway from Downtown Squamish. The Crash Hotel is on Cleveland Ave, the main street in Downtown Squamish, so it's a great location but sits above the one club in town so it might be noisy. Mamquam River Campground is a rustic but well located camping option. MTN Fun Basecamp offers shower facilities for tent camping and RV sites in addition to hotel rooms. It's about 10 minutes driving north of Downtown Squamish. Klahanie Campground has shower facilities and is located a 5 minute drive south of Downtown Squamish.
