This is the coffee shop that we hung out at a lot before we started dating, because of the eclectic vibes aaaand the late hours (optimal for unhurried, late night, chill, pre-dating hangs). If you're a coffee enthusiast, we'd also recommend the Single Origin Pourover from Bird Rock Coffee (Stephen's favorite) or the Iced Nola from Blue Bottle Coffee (Sierra's favorite).
Our favorite sushi joint. It's a hole in the wall (which means it's really good). Other sushi shoutouts: Harumama in La Jolla (great ocean views), or URBN Sushi in UTC (good lunch specials)
Good burgers and beer. Other mighty fine eateries: The Friendly (burgers), In-N-Out (need we say more?), BJ's (happy hour from 3-7pm during weekdays), Din Tai Fung (best dim sum in town, reservations far in advance needed, but HIGHLY recommend), Cross Street Chicken (Korean Fried Chicken), Bangkok Bay (Thai), Taco Stand (iconic taco restaurant in San Diego with the best churros)
An's Dry Cleaning is some of the best ice cream you can find in town. They also have a second location: An's Hatmaker. If you go, be sure to mention you've never been there before, and they'll give you the flavor tour! Other dessert shoutouts: Salt & Straw, Bobboi Gelato, Taco Stand Churros
San Diego has quite a few speakeasies. We've enjoyed Raised by Wolves, Convoy Music Bar, and Occulto! Drinks only, and reservations are definitely required.
Stephen is an IPA enthusiast. So if you're looking for some good breweries, we'd recommend: Ballast Point Brewery, Alesmith, Carl Strauss, Deft, or Stone!
Spend a couple hours hanging out where we hang out! We enjoy: (1) seeing the seals and catching sunset from the cliffs (2) hanging out at the Living Room Coffeehouse (3) getting gelato from Bobboi (4) touring D.G. Wills bookstore (5) getting food at the Taco Stand or Cherrywine (when we're feeling fancy)
Great to do with kids!
Up for a hike? Inland a little is a lovely 3.0 mile round trip hike with views of the greater San Diego area from the top. We'd also recommend: (1) Ho Chi Minh/Saigon Trail in Torrey Pines (difficult) (2) Annie's Canyon in Solana Beach (moderate) (3) Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve (easy)
