New Orleans is pretty casual. Light, summery clothes with comfortable walking shoes will suffice for most activities. Keep in mind that indoor A/C can be very chilly and many fine dining restaurants will have a dress code. A rain jacket is always a good idea. The wedding itself is black tie (preferred). Please refer to our "What to Wear" section for inspiration!
New Orleans receptions are typically not seated dinners but consist of passed hors d'oeuvres at the start followed by open action stations and buffets. The emphasis is on lots of food options, lots of beverages and a social atmosphere.
People in New Orleans love to parade! They parade for weddings, funerals, birthdays, Mardi Gras, or no reason at all. When performed for weddings, the Second-Line is in celebration of the new life the couple is about to embark on. The parade itself is composed of two parts: the “First-Line” consists of the traditional New Orleans Brass Band as well as the Bride and Groom. The “Second-Line” consists of family, friends, wedding guests, and any passerby who would like to join in to follow behind the couple. Parade participants walk, dance, wave a handkerchief, or twirl parasols in rhythm to the sound of the brass band as they make their way down the parade route.
Il Mercato is located next to Sophie Wright Park, surrounded on three sides by boutiques, shops and restaurants. There is very limited street parking that serves all those businesses. We highly recommend leaving any car at your hotel and taking an Uber/taxi to the venue.
The ceremony will be held in the outdoor courtyard. In the event of rain, it will be covered. Food and dancing at the reception will be inside.
We do ask that you refrain from taking photos or having phones go off during the ceremony. We invite you to be fully present with us during such a meaningful experience and kindly keep all devices turned off until a more appropriate time. There will be ample opportunities for candid photos and selfies later during the reception.
