Kate and Drew met while working at MSU's student paper, The State News. Kate was a copy editor and Drew was a page designer, so they rarely crossed paths… except during “spellcheck.” Spellcheck is the nightly newspaper ritual practiced by generations of State Newsers in which the copy editor visits the design desk to remove any last typos from the page before sending it to press. And with each spellcheck, Drew fell under Kate’s spell. Who was this grammatically (and anatomically) perfect woman breezing into his life like a blonde blur? Was she some sort of mysterious lynx raised by wolves? And how could he get her to say more than two words to him? Kate noticed him because he’s hot. Summer had just begun, and after a brief, precarious romance, Kate suddenly left for an internship in New York, giving Drew only a few days' notice. Heartsick, but determined, he drove the 700 miles to see her— still unsure if she was interested or not. They stayed up all night walking and talking throughout the streets of Manhattan and Drew left in the morning. Kate wondered if this whole thing meant he liked her. Nine years later, they live together in Brooklyn with their cat, Edward Norton.
