Cousin Tori has a bucket list item for Ireland, and it seems like there is a lot of interest, so we wanted to share details in case others were intrigued. A group of us will be taking a train to Forty Foot late morning on Wednesday, if weather permits. We will only go if conditions are calm. The water will be much colder than what we are used to (~60 degrees Fahrenheit), so those who participate will likely plunge rather than swim. The train ride is about a half hour from the city. Swimming and/or diving at Forty Foot is a Dublin tradition that dates back centuries; however, women were banned up until 1974, so some go simply to make a statement. (It's me! Hi!) Forty Foot has become so much a part of the Dublin identity that hundreds dive and/or swim here every Christmas Day. Whether you want to sit and people watch, use the steps to slowly walk into the Irish Sea, or dare to jump from the cliffs, feel free to join! We realized that some of our friends will still be in town the night after the wedding. For those who are looking for a last hoorah, we will be singing (and maybe crying) "goodbye" to Dublin after taking it easy most of the afternoon. The pub confirmed that karaoke is held on Friday nights and although space could not be held for us, large groups are welcome. This will be cash bar. Please note this gathering is completely optional. Feel free to venture the city, if you prefer.
