Saturday from 6:15am - 1:45pm, there is a huge farmers' market that takes place around the Capitol Square. This is one of Lexi's favorites! We'd recommend going earlier if you want to avoid the crowds! You'll find coffee, baked goods, farm fresh fruits and veggies, flowers, plants, jams, honey, meats and of course CHEESE.
Memorial Union is so much more than just a student union building! It has a variety of quick food options, including Babcock ice cream which is made on campus by the university's very own dairy plant! Memorial union has a beautiful view of Lake Mendota, and it's also where you'll find the iconic "sunburst chairs"! The terrace is the perfect place to buy a pitcher of Spotted Cow and relax. In the evenings, sometimes they have entertainment on the terrace. Check the union website to see their event schedule!
If you're looking to spend some time outside or get a few steps in, you should check out the lakeshore path! It runs along Lake Mendota and connects southeast campus to northwest (AKA Lakeshore) campus. It's a beautiful trail that's great for walking or biking! We had many hammock sessions and picnics along this path during our time in Madison. You'll find the "beginning" of the trail down by the lake behind 630 N Lake St. Just take the sidewalk to the left and keep going. We hope you enjoy! <3
If you want to see more of campus, Bascom Hill is a nearby site! Our friend group had numerous late-night outings on Bascom, looking down state street at the glowing Capitol in the distance. On one occasion, Lexi and friends pulled an all nighter on Bascom waiting in line so they could be in the front row for College Game Day! (they were!!)
Olbrich is a great option if you're looking to kill some time during the day!
State Street is a go-to destination when visiting Madison. It's a pedestrian only street lined with stores and restaurants. Take a stroll, grab a coffee, browse some shops! We spent lots of time walking this street. Some of Lexi's favorites are Madison Modern Market and Michelangelo's Coffee House. Doyle loves Paul's Pel'meni, which is just off State Street on Gilman St!
If you're looking for something to do at night, check out the Ivory Room Piano Bar. This is one of our absolute favorites for cheap entertainment!
This is our #1 favorite place to eat in Madison. It's a unique experience as they only sell one item - Russian dumplings. Choose your choice of beef or potato dumplings (or combo) and make sure to ask for "the works" when ordering! Enjoy!!
If you're looking for American food with a ~delicious~ flare, try The Great Dane. We love their mac and cheese and of course the cheese curds! They also brew all their own beer!
There's nothing more "Wisconsin" than The Old Fashioned. Great food, great drinks, and great vibes!
Coffee. That's all you need to know!!
Delicious coffee and yummy paninis!
Another "iconic" Madison location. We couldn't tell you how many of these doughnuts we've consumed (but it's a lot!) They have great old fashioned doughnuts, blueberry being one of our favorites!
Mickie's is what some would call an "iconic" breakfast spot in Madison. It opened in 1946 and is located across the street from Camp Randall. There is often a line outside the door to get a table. The earlier you arrive, the better if you're wanting to avoid the line! Lexi loves their chocolate chip pancakes and Doyle usually goes for their scrambler!
The Basset Street Brunch Club is exactly what it sounds like. It has a great variety of options for both breakfast and lunch. A very solid choice if you're looking for delicious food!
RED is perfect if you're looking for a more up-scale dinner spot! The sushi is great and we love the Crispy Brussels Sprout Salad! Keep in mind, you'll likely need a reservation!
Naples15 is authentic Neapolitan cuisine right in the heart of Madison. It's a good option if you're looking for something a little more "up-scale". If they have the lobster ravioli, you have to order!!
Another high-end dining experience. Eno Vino offers many wine options and tapas-style dining!
